A tribute to its famous author the Hotel Mark Twain was built in 1928 and originally known as the Linden Hotel. It was renamed the Hotel Mark Twain during the Great Depression and has remained so over the years despite a short lived attempt by one of the owners. In the late 40’s the hotel was made infamous by the great blues singer Billie Holiday. Her arrest in room #203 by federal narcotics for possession of opium and a pipe ended up in trial. She was acquitted however, the incident earned the Hotel Mark Twain a listing in the “Top Ten Famous Hotel Rooms”.
