The University of Charleston, formerly Morris Harvey College, is a private accredited university based in Charleston, West Virginia, United States. The university also has locations in Beckley, West Virginia and Martinsburg, West Virginia, known as UC-Beckley and UC-Martinsburg, respectively.The school offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. Several of the university's programs are available online.HistoryThe school was founded in 1888 as the Barboursville Seminary of the Southern Methodist Church. In 1901, it was renamed Morris Harvey College, in honor of a devoted supporter.In 1935 the school moved to downtown Charleston and affiliated with the Mason College of Fine Arts and Music. In 1940, it became independent of the Methodist Church. In 1947, the school moved to its present campus in the Kanawha City section of Charleston across the river from the State Capitol. In 1951, it purchased the Young-Noyes House as the home of the college president. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.The college fell on hard times after the end of the military draft and college deferment during the Vietnam War and offered itself to the state in 1975, which refused the gift. In December 1978, the school changed its name to the University of Charleston. Beginning with the inauguration of the current president, Dr. Edwin H. Welch, the school has undergone a physical and academic transformation. Four new residence halls, a parking garage, a fitness center, an academic building housing the library, computer and science labs, and a new school of pharmacy have been built since 1998.
Charleston School of Beauty Culture is a full service school. We offer classes in barbering, cosmetology, aesthetics, and manicuring. classes start the first Tuesday of every month and financial aid is available to those that qualify. Garnet High School, also known as Garnet Career Center and Garnet Adult Education Center, is a historic African American high school located at Charleston, West Virginia. It is a three story, brick structure, constructed in 1928-29 from the plans of the prestigious Charleston architectural firm of Warne, Tucker, Silling and Hutchison, and dedicated December 2–4, 1929. The facade features a limestone arched entrance containing two sets of double doors, transom light, and a limestone tympanum. Garnet was one of three high schools in the Kanawha Valley built for African American students. It closed as a high school in 1956, following integration of the public schools, but has been used as a public resource building since that time.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
The library contain approximately 15,000 bound journals, 10,000+ e-journals, 300 current journal print subscriptions and 20,000 texts in clinical medicine and related sub-specialties. The library also has a social work collection. The library is also open to the public.

Welcome to the University of Charleston’s Office of International Programs which supports over 139 international students from 34 countries. The Office of International Programs is committed to promoting the exchange of educational and cultural ideas and to supporting the process of internationalizing the campus. Throughout the academic year, programs and activities are developed to engage students along with faculty and staff in the exchange of knowledge and culture. The events include but are not limited to the following: International Education Week (IEW) World Fest International Student Leadership Conference Tours and Trips Tours and trips are scheduled throughout the year particularly for new international students. These tours or short excursions are part of the process of cultural integration to the new surroundings. In the past, students have been on tours of the Capitol Building and the Governor’s Mansion as well as historical Malden, the Midland Trail (Route 60), and the New River Gorge.
Membership: The Secondary Division shall be composed of secondary students who are or have been enrolled in a Health Science or an organized health career awareness program or are interested in, planning to pursue, or pursuing a career in the health professions. The Postsecondary/Collegiate Division shall be composed of students enrolled in Health Science programs at the postsecondary/collegiate level as specified in Article III, Section 4 in the HOSA Bylaws. The person(s) responsible for advising students on health science activities that relate to HOSA. They shall pay affiliation fees, but may not vote, hold office or compete for HOSA member awards.Professional - (Other than HOSA Chapter Advisor) - These shall be health professionals and other adult members of the community who wish to assist and support the HOSA program of activities. They shall pay affiliation fees, but may not vote, hold office or compete for HOSA member awards. Alumni As specified in Article III, Section 5 in the HOSA Bylaws, the Alumni Division shall be composed of persons who have been enrolled in Health Science programs and were members of HOSA, or former members of a HOSA chapter who no longer meet the requirements of regular chapter membership. Alumni members shall pay no affiliation fees, and may not vote, make motions, hold office or compete in events.

Meetings are on the second Monday of each month at the WVEA headquarters at 1558 Quarrier Street beginning at 4:15 pm. All members are invited and urged to attend. Building representatives from each school especially need to be present to take information back to their schools.
Geriatric Education Centers, provide training of health professional faculty, students and practitioners in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, disability and other health problems of the elderly. Projects must offer interdisciplinary training involving four or more health professions. West Virginia’s Geriatric Education Center (WVGEC) is a consortium of partners that include WVU – School of Medicine at Charleston, Morgantown and Eastern Divisions; Marshall University School of Medicine, WV School of Osteopathic Medicine, WV Rural Health Partnerships which include: the Northern WV AHEC; Eastern WV AHEC; and the Southeastern WV AHEC (Area Health Education Center).

We are pleased to offer an outstanding faith-based academic curriculum for children, ages 2 through 5 years old. Our focus during the school year is on language development, math readiness, social studies, science, art, music, physical education, Bible lessons, and moral and faith concepts. New Beginnings also offers a Summer Camp program, for children who are 3 through 8 years old. We also have an hourly child care facility called The Treehouse. The Treehouse is open year round (school year: 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. ~ ages 16 months through 5 years) & (summer months: 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. ~ ages 16 months through 8 years). The Growing Place is dedicated to the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of each child. Activities are designed using the Creative Curriculum model with the goal of nurturing self-confidence, independence, and creativity. The Growing Place uses a child-centered approach allowing each child to discover and learn at his or her own pace. Caring, experienced teachers facilitate learning through creative play and age-appropriate activities that engage, empower, and encourage early learning and development.
