Town Pavilion is a 38-story 180.1m skyscraper at 1111 Main Street on the northeast corner of 12th and Main Streets in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, around the corner from Oppenstein Brothers Memorial Park. The tower occupies the former site of several retail buildings--including Kline's Department Store and Kresge's Dime Store. The 11-story former Harzfeld's Department Store and the former Boley Building were preserved, and have been integrated into the design of Town Pavilion.Completed in 1986, it is the second-tallest habitable building in Kansas City behind One Kansas City Place, and third tallest in Missouri behind One Metropolitan Square in St. Louis. The building's main tenants are Transamerica, Bank Midwest and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
One Kansas City Place is the tallest building in Missouri located in downtown Kansas City, bounded by 12th Street to the north, Baltimore Avenue to the west, and Main Street to the east. Built in 1988, the 190.1m skyscraper was designed by Patty Berkebile Nelson & Immenschuh and replaced the Town Pavilion as the tallest building in the city. One Kansas City Place is considered an architectural salute to City Hall, which is located 5 blocks east of Main on 12th Street.HistoryOne Kansas City Place was constructed as the first part of a much larger project named Kansas City Place, which never was completed. The project was to include townhomes, office towers, and residential/hotel towers. The Kansas City Place project was originally proposed during the real estate boom of the 1980s. The plan was developed by Frank Morgan and his uncle Sherman Dreiseszun who had earlier built Town Pavilion that was completed in 1986.The tower was proposed for the South Loop (So-Lo) area south of downtown's central business district. The project included a plethora of skyscrapers with uses ranging from offices to hotels and residential buildings. Unsubstantiated claims hold that a major cause of the project's failure to come to its full stature was the complaints of residents, claiming it would ruin Kansas City's skyline, which had remained largely unchanged for 30 years. One Kansas City Place was to be the third-tallest of several towers constructed, though it is the tallest that was actually constructed. Today, it is one of the most recognizable buildings in Kansas City's skyline.

The TWA Corporate Headquarters Building, located at 1735 Baltimore Avenue in the Crossroads neighborhood of downtown Kansas City, was Trans World Airlines headquarters until 1964, when the airline moved to New York City. The selection of Kansas City as the headquarters for TWA (Transcontinental Air Transport after it merged with Western Air Express, initially T&WA) was said to have been made by Charles Lindbergh. The building was designed by architects Raymond E. Bales, Jr. and Morris Schechter and built by the Long Construction Company of Kansas City; site work began in May 1955, and construction was completed on October 31, 1956. The building's exterior was decorated in TWA's signature red and white corporate colors. The three-story L-shaped commercial facility was dominated by aluminum panels and corrugated concrete paneling. It was constructed using the Youtz-Slick construction method, in which steel support beams were first erected and then concrete slabs were poured at ground level and lifted into place by hydraulic jacks; the slabs were then bolted and welded onto the beams, which allowed for a reduction in construction costs and construction time.By 1964 TWA had become a major international figure in aviation, which prompted a move of the airline's executive offices to New York City. The 1735 Baltimore building remained the headquarters for TWA's accounting department, ticket office, credit department, and cargo department until 1969; the airline continued to use the building for training its flight attendants until opening the Breech Academy in nearby suburban Overland Park, KS in 1969.

For many years actors and other “living” inhabitants of our buildings have reported strange and sometimes unbelievable occurrences that were unrelated to the commercial haunted house operations. Local Paranormal Investigators have been inside several of our 100 year old buildings and have reported them as a hot bed of activity. In August of 2010 Discovery Channel’s Ghost Lab filmed for 3 days at the Chambers of Edgar Allan Poe, located at 1100 Santa Fe reported on three different occasions EVP’s (electronic voice phenomenon) were captured. The feelings of being watched and cold spots led the investigators to believe the haunts might be “intelligent” (ghosts might be able to interact with Investigators) as opposed to “residual” (energy might be observed and usually will not respond to exterior interference). You can see the findings from Ghost Lab by clicking here. Come and investigate for yourself as you embark on a Full Moon Ghost Hunt. Our first of many Full Moon Ghost Hunts will take you inside the Chambers of Edgar Allan Poe to allow you, the Paranormal Investigator, the opportunity to use tools and equipment (like the pros) that can prove or disprove that ghosts could really walk amongst the living. The tools used on Full Moon Ghost Hunts are Full-Spectrum Digital Cameras, Digital Recorders, Digital IR/ Ambient Thermometers and K-11 EMF Detectors. Full Moon Ghost Hunts are offered by reservation only. You will receive a copy of evidence of your findings at the end of your hunt along with copies of the pictures from your full-spectrum digital camera and a T-Shirt. We offer bookings for groups and private tours, or if you would like to inquire about additional tours and times please do not hesitate to call. We would be more than happy to accommodate you.
