Public School 9, originally known as Grammar School 9, then later the John Jasper School and currently the Mickey Mantle School, is a historic school building at 466 West End Avenue at West 82nd Street in the Upper West Side neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It was built in 1894-96, and was designed by C. B. J. Snyder, the Superintendent of School Buildings. The building was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1987, and was designated a New York City landmark in 2009. It is located in the Riverside-West End Historic District Extension I.HistoryThe school that became P.S. 9 was originally organized by the vestry of Saint Michael's Church (Episcopal) in the early 19th century. The vestry continued to operate the school in the Bloomingdale area until a law was enacted November 19, 1824 which barred church schools from receiving public school funding. On May 22, 1826, the Public School Society of New York acquired it; and, in July 1827, the Society paid $250 for a 100x100 foot tract at 82nd Street between 10th (Amsterdam) and 11th (West End) Avenues. On July 19, 1830, the Society completed the construction of a one-story clapboard school at 466 West End Avenue for $1,500, accommodating about 50 children. The Society transferred jurisdiction of the school to the Board of Education in July 1853.

No child is the same as the next, and as an educator and caregiver, this is very obvious. All children develop, learn and function differently and it is so important to be sensitive to this fact. Children have different interests and hobbies outside of music. During Taylor-Made lessons and classes, I try to stay relevant to the specific student I’m working with.

JJP seeks to revolutionize supplementary Jewish education. From third through seventh grade, applicants will engage in a wide range of courses that speak to the whole child and together build a unique journey through the possibilities of Jewish life. Over five years, applicants fully integrate Jewish education into their lives by experiencing the vibrant resources of the New York Jewish community. Our applicants come to understand that Jewish learning takes place in many settings, not just the traditional classroom. JJP is a living classroom, a network of museums, community centers, synagogues, theaters, art galleries, parks, gardens, and your family's home. Upon celebrating their Bar or Bat Mitzvah, each child will have a Passport that documents the pathways they have traveled on their unique Jewish journey. This integrated experience of Jewish learning will encourage them to explore new pathways as they enter young adulthood.
Michael Warren D.M.A. obtained his Doctorate in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Maryland, along with Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Denver, and has operated a prominent vocal studio in New York City for over 25 years. Several of his students have made leading role debuts at the Metropolitan Opera, and have sung in all of the major opera houses of the world including Covent Garden, La Scala, San Francisco and Bayreuth, appearing with such renowned artists as Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo and Mirella Freni. They have also performed leading roles on Broadway and in major jazz venues around the world. Several of his students have also established significant careers as voice teachers.
