Our Issues: Re-Districting The U.S. Census Bureau counts incarcerated people where they are confined not where they are from. Using these counts to draw state and local legislative districts enhances the weight of a vote cast by people who live near prisons at the expense of everyone else in the state or county. Election Reform Common Cause in Connecticut is dedicated to furthering issues of voting rights and access for all citizens, including early voting, no excuse absentee voting, election day registration, and the national popular vote. Municipal Ethics Local governments, whether city, town or village, have an enormous impact on the lives of all Connecticut residents. Common Cause in Connecticut advocates for ethical and transparent municipal government in all of Connecticut's cities and towns. Campaign Finance Reform Clean Elections gives citizens a greater voice in their government, while reducing the undue influence of special interest money in politics. In 2005, the Connecticut legislature passed into law the Citizens' Election Program, which provides grants to qualified candidates running for state office. The program elminates the need for candidates to raise money from special interests, and provides an opportunity for ordinary people to run for office and compete fairly. Common Cause in Connecticut continues to advocate for the Citizens' Election Program and works to ensure a fair democracy.
