A National Historic Site In the summer of 1869, ten families gathered for rest and religious fellowship on the land that is now known as Founders Park. After Dr. William B. Osborn had examined the New Jersey coast from Sandy Hook to Cape May he chose this square mile because it had the highest beach, the best grove of trees and was free from mosquitos. He named it Ocean Grove. In December 1869 an organization consisting of 13 ministers and 13 laymen was formed under the name "The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association." A charter was obtained from the New Jersey Legislature and the first Camp Meeting was held the next summer. Ocean Grove has approximately one-half mile of beachfront. Until 1977 there was no vehicular traffic of any kind on Sunday and Ocean Grove was well known for this quiet atmosphere of traffic free streets.

Please refrain form pointing fingers..I created this page with pure marvel for the Lanes. In my humble opinion it could be regarded as an 8th Wonder, a constructed phenomena, if you will. Inceptive and engaging. A place of joyous hoopla. Motely; yes! even better. Not like any other place you will visit around here. Open to everyone! Lets not sink to the bottom with jaundiced chit chat, lets surge to the top, let 'them' know where we stand, and what we want for our beautiful state our beautiful Asbury Lanes. Ignorance can be bliss, but not in this case. Some of the best parts of the lanes: the sounds of the vintage bowling balls crashing behind the profoundly inviting music, record swap/garage sale, dr. sketchy (Tim Lucas), bingo, vintage movie night, laid back and enchanting servers among the vintage furniture and random acts of sufferance. Say goodbye to the abatement of the Low Brow art movement; if this new management shifts the stage; say hello to highbrow and the billowing of the cultural echelons. Preserve the Lanes (as it was and keep it as it is) Please!
