Turnstone focuses on four specialty markets: Water features, naturalistic retaining walls, zoological habitats, and artistic finishes. The common denominator in all of our work is a structural, concrete foundation. Finishes include sculpted and stained concrete, natural rock placement, and embedded cobble, sand, and gravel. Our projects are built to endure. Here at Turnstone, we are experts at waterproofing, and provide a system that seals an inviolable membrane between layers of high-strength concrete. Our forming techniques enable the edges of our work to be softened or hidden by landscaping and architectural elements. We design our hydraulic systems for minimal maintenance and with operations that require as little power and water as possible making them environmentally friendly. Turnstone employs and manages an elite crew of artists expert in undertaking custom, detail-oriented jobs, and performing each project within budget and on schedule.
The Ye College Inn is a nationally recognized historic building in Seattle, Washington. It is located at the Northeast corner of University Way and NE 40th Street in the University District one block West of the University of Washington. It was designed in 1909 by Graham & Myers and is an excellent example of Tudor Revival architecture used on a commercial building. At the time of its construction, the University Campus was the site of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition and the College Inn was intended to function as a small hotel for fair goers. It later provided housing for students as well as commercial services on the lower floor and does to this day. Following a complete restoration in 1979, The Ye College Inn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
The Ethnic Cultural Center & Theatre Complex (ECC) opened in 1972 in response to student demands for greater diversity in educational programming. The ECC was designed to provide a supportive, nurtuing atmosphere to enhance student academic performance. The Ethnic Cultural Theatre (ECT) is an important part of the design. Its purpose is to increase awareness of all cultures through the performing arts. For almost 40 years, the Ethnic Cultural Center and its theatre have been at the center of the university’s effort to encourage both cross-cultural exchange and learning beyond the classroom.
