Temple Emanu-El is the oldest, largest and most dynamic Reform synagogue in Tucson. The Hebrew term of temple is Beit Knesset, which means house of assembly, a building where Jewish people get together. Our synagogue is many things for our congregants: a holy place to worship God, a center to learn about and experience the amazingly rich Jewish tradition, a comfortable location to meet and make friendships, and a working center of living Judaism. It is also a place of creative exploration, where we can seek that which moves and excites us religiously and intellectually. There are many opportunities at Temple Emanu-El for Jewish education, prayer, social action and social interaction. We are working hard to make our temple a warm, welcoming, vibrant house of prayer and study, of family and friendship. We embrace and support all Jews who seek a caring community that constantly works to improve the world through the joy and celebration of Judaism.

El Tour de Tucson is Perimeter Bicycling’s flagship event and the largest perimeter bicycling event in America – 106, 76, 54, 37and 28 miles plus 11, 5, and ¼-mile Fun Rides. Founded in 1983, Held annually the Saturday before Thanksgiving, El Tour attracts thousands of cyclists from all around the world. A super lineup of unique features includes: Three-day Bike EXPO, exciting mass-start spectacle, chip timing, Mariachis at the first of two (usually dry) river crossings, route stations with water and snacks spaced about 7-10 miles apart, Bike Patrol and SAG support, full police support at intersections, plenty of morale-boosting volunteers and spectators, Olympic-style medallions to all finishers and an unforgettable finish-line "Downtown Fiesta" with Beer Garden, music, massages and more. The Fiesta brings together cyclists, tourists and members of the greater Tucson community for a celebration of art, health and fitness. Main event routes show off Tucson’s beautiful vistas of its local mountain ranges - three rising over 9,000 feet - complete with the backdrop of the mighty Saguaro cactus. The Fun Rides offer easy and exciting routes that highlight some of Downtown Tucson’s cultural attractions. Proceeds go to Easter Seals Blake Foundation, Tu Nidito Children & Family Services, American Parkinson Disease Association, Ben’s Bells Project, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Susan G Komen Southern Az, Tucson Boys and Girls Clubs, Rotary International - Polio Plus and other Perimeter Bicycling Charities. El Tour de Mesa is open to cyclists of all ages and abilities, there is a ride distance for everyone and opportunities to earn gifts, prizes and awards. El Tour de Mesa benefits Uphill Into The Wind iand Perimeter Bicycling Association of America, Inc. The long “main event” distance is 70 miles: The route follows a scenic course with the beautiful and rugged backdrop of the Salt River Recreation Area and Tonto National Forest, circumnavigating the East Valley’s most recognizable landmark, Red Mountain. The short “main event” distance is 28 miles: The distance features a “remote” start that finishes in downtown Mesa, AZ with the other events. The FUN RIDES - 5 and 1/4 miles: Starting and finishing in downtown Mesa, AZ, these short, fun events are ideal for the new or inexperienced cyclists or those who just want to be part of the fun. Join the City of Mesa, the Downtown Mesa Association and El Tour for a fun day of all things bicycle! This event includes El Tour’s festivities (like the Start/Finish line and the Grand Cycling Awards Ceremony), Ciclovia, a Bike Swap, a kids bike rodeo, a self-paced historic bike tour, bike art and food, games and music! Enjoy the festivities on streets closed to motorized traffic! Cochise Classic has been called the jewel of Perimeter Bicycling’s events as is offers the most scenic route around southeastern Arizona where the west is still wild. Cyclists choose to ride 157, 95, 45 or 27 miles starting in Douglas, Arizona. This is one of the most adventurous rides with a variety of weather conditions possible including mild temperature and breezes to outright heat and wind on rural roads in open range (watch out for cattle!). It’s a ride to be prepared for anything while you’re having fun! Participants in the 157-mile event MUST be supported by a crew and follow vehicle. Though there are time stations where cyclists/crews must check in during the ride, there are NO AID STATIONS for this adventure so support crew is a must to supply food, water and moral support. Be sure to review the rules regarding night riding if you choose this distance. Participants in the 92 and 45 mile events will get to take advantage of AID STATIONS along the route supplied with water, fruit and snacks. Nutritional food and electrolyte replacements must be supplied by the cyclist. Personal support crews are not allowed on these two distances. The Cochise Classic benefits Perimeter Bicycling Association of America, Inc. and Douglas Association For Retarded Citizens (DARC) whose mission is to support and involve people with developmental disabilities within the Douglas community. Perimeter Bicycling connects communities nationally and internationally. In the past four years, Perimeter Bicycling has cultivated relationships with Japanese event organizers and helps promote and support El Tour de Mt. Fuji and El Tour de Kusatsu, held annually, during September and April, respectively. Both events are modeled after El Tour’s perimeter concept “Cycling in Pursuit of Wellness”.

Parent Aid

(520) 798-3304

In the late 1980’s a group of passionate community leaders were tired of seeing stories about broken families and children being abused and neglected. Rather than turning a blind eye and remaining apathetic, this group decided to do something about it. They created the foundation for Parent Aid. Our founders were made up of the six Exchange Clubs of Tucson who dared to take on their national project to prevent child abuse. Our local Exchange Clubs worked hard to raise all the funds necessary and dedicated long hours to launching our program in 1990. Initially, we were set up as a program under a larger organization, but quickly were able to find our footing and become an autonomous 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening families and preventing child abuse. While the number of local Exchange Clubs has changed from 6 to 5, their dedication to this cause is symbolized by their continual support and efforts to enable Parent Aid to reach more families and positively impact the lives of more children in our community. Originally, our program consisted of volunteer “parent aides,” but as family dynamics became more complex our program evolved to utilize paraprofessional Family Support Specialists to work with families. Our staff are highly trained in helping families understand and overcome the challenges they face. In fact, since 1990, we have partnered with over 1500 families and over 4500 children in Pima County.
