The James H. and Jesse E. Millis Athletic and Convocation Center is a 1750-seat multi-purpose athletic and academic facility on the campus of High Point University in High Point, North Carolina. The basis of the building is Alumni Hall, which was built in 1957. In 1992, the facility was added upon, creating the office space, classrooms and pool on the western side of the facility, as well as adding a state-of-the-art press box.In recent years the massive expansion of HPU has not left Millis unnoticed. A "jumbotron," an LED-powered scorers table and a four-sided scoreboard were added in the last couple years. On October 24, 2007 (prior to the 2007-08 basketball season) two more "jumbotrons" were installed.Much of the previous strain for space in the Millis Center has been alleviated by the recent opening of the Jerry and Kitty Steele Center.Millis Center has hosted several notable events, such as President George W. Bush's televised 2002 speech, HPU Presidential Scholarship Weekend events, HPU men's and women's basketball games, HPU volleyball matches, and other ancillary HPU events.
The Nido R. Qubein School of Communication offers students a combination of theory-based and practical courses in a multidisciplinary, experiential-learning environment. Our state-of-the-art facilities feature two high definition television production studios, a multi-track audio recording studio, editing suites, computer labs, a high-definition surround sound theatre-screening room, and an incredible games/interactive communication development studio. The Theatre Program at High Point University offers a comprehensive bachelor of arts degree, combining rigorous course work and practical production experience to provide students with the basic theatre skills needed to prepare them for: a variety of entry-level positions in the professional theatre; graduate study and specialized professional training; and related careers in which creativity, communication skills, and collaborative abilities are essential.

The criminal justice major at High Point University will prepare students for a variety of scenarios and fields. Classes that go beyond the norm help add excitement and hands-on learning to the classroom experience. For example, CRJ 3500: Crime Investigation allows the student to apply classroom acquired investigational skills to a variety of real-world crime scenes at our “Crime House” (a real house operated by the CRJ department where students lift fingerprints, analyze blood spatter/victim wounds and deal with a variety of other evidence to solve the mystery). CRJ 3200: Courts and Trials takes students to actual criminal trials at the courthouse and allows students to conduct realistic mock trials in class. CRJ 4000: Terrorism Counter – Terrorism explores the variety of sinister terror groups in our world as well as counter-terror technologies.
The Human Relations, Sociology, and Non Profit Studies department is unlike any other academic department at High Point University. These majors offer both traditional lecture styled learning as well as experiential learning activities that complement the traditional lecture format. - Human relations is an academic program grounded in organizational behavior that embraces the theory to practice perspective which provides an academic base for students pursuing careers involving interpersonal relationships and emphasizes the human side of professional organizations. - Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. - Nonprofit Leadership and Management major prepares students for leadership and management positions in the nonprofit sector.
