The Duke Energy Center is a 786ft tall, 48-floor skyscraper in Charlotte, North Carolina. When completed in 2010, it was the largest building in Charlotte, second tallest building in Charlotte, and the tallest in the world to use precast double tees built by Prestress of the Carolinas. The building is named for its anchor tenant, Duke Energy, and both the tower and the adjacent cultural arts campus are owned by Wells Fargo.Sonnenschein will use 35000sqft on the 34th and 35th floors and Deloitte will use 82000sqft.Originally, the building was to be known as the Wachovia Corporate Center. It was to replace One Wachovia Center as the headquarters of Wachovia. Wachovia was to occupy 450000sqft of the 1500000sqft tower. Wells Fargo plans to use five of its 14 floors.ConstructionThe project was announced in spring of 2004, and official renderings were not released until December 6, 2006. In the original petition to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission, the building was going to be built on a 1.29acre parcel next to 400 South Tryon, with a height of 510ft and 34 floors. The site preparation began with the demolition of a Firestone Tire dealership in February 2006, and on February 28, 2006, the excavation and blasting of a 100ft-deep hole for the below-grade parking garage began. Over 600,000 pounds of explosives were used during its excavation and it took just over 60,000 dump truck loads to remove all of the excavated material from the site, some of which was used in the construction of a third runway at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

The Charles R. Jonas Federal Building, also known as the United States Post Office and Courthouse, is an historic structure located at 401 West Trade Street, in Charlotte, North Carolina, which has served at various times as a courthouse of the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, and a United States post office. Designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect under James A. Wetmore, it was completed in 1915; the building was renamed in honor of long-serving North Carolina Congressman Charles R. Jonas, and was transferred to the city in exchange for land in the fall of 2005, and has been leased back to the federal government for continued use.HistoryThe Charles R. Jonas Federal Building is located on a site important to the history of Charlotte, and is one of the few historic structures remaining in the Central Business District. The first branch of the U.S. Mint had been built on the northeast section of the site in 1836, and in 1891, a Post Office facility was built on the southwest portion of the site. The space between the two buildings was converted to a park/plaza. In 1913 the Mint functions were discontinued (the building eventually becoming the Mint Museum) and the 1891 post office building was torn down. In 1915 the first portion of what would later become the Charles R. Jonas Federal Building, a new Post Office, was built on the site of the older one. In 1934 an addition to the original Post Office was completed on the site of the Mint. The addition tripled the size of the original and changed the orientation of the main facade and entry of the building to West Trade Street at the southeast.

Catalyst is a 27-story 462-unit apartment building on West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Charlotte, North Carolina. The concrete and glass skyscraper in Third Ward, designed by Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart, was built by Atlanta-based Novare Group and completed in 2009.Tony Skillbeck, president of Novare Carolinas Development, said that the name reflected the building's status as "a literal catalyst for the red-development and the regeneration of Third Ward" as well as the fact that for many residents, this would be their first home purchase, "a catalyst in our buyers' lives."Groundbreaking took place August 29, 2007. A 15-story, 363000sqft office building called 440 South Church was built next door by Trinity Capital Advisors, designed by the same architectural firm. Novare was involved with the office tower, which has Ally Financial as a major tenant. However, Novare was dropped as an operating partner, though keeping its investment, because the company had significant debts that could result in foreclosures, and auditor Deloitte had "substantial doubt about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern." Novare's problems had little effect on the Catalyst project, however.
