The School of Business is organized into five academic departments: Accounting, Economics and Finance, Management and MIS, Marketing, and MBA Program. The School of Business offers a business major with a concentration in accounting, business economics, finance, international business, management, management of information systems, and marketing leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. The program builds a strong foundation in liberal arts and offers an in-depth knowledge in a particular business area. The Business Administration Program prepares students both for graduate study in economics, business administration, or law and for seeking entry-level professional positions in business, industry, and government. A Bachelor of Arts degree with major in economics may be earned through the Department of Economics in the School of Business. Applicants are encouraged to contact directly the Department of Economics for specific details. In addition, the School of Business offers the M.B.A. degree in business administration.
The Women's Studies Program is committed to integrating scholarly inquiry, critical problem-solving methods, professional training, cooperative leadership skills, and practical strategies for intervention in real-life situations affecting the well-being of women locally and globally. Faculty and students share a commitment to human rights advocacy around the world. Compatible with many different areas of study, Women's Studies allows students to explore the nature of women's status, circumstances, and objectives across the boundaries of academic disciplines, cultures, and historical time periods.
The SCSU Phonathon is an annual fundraising effort in which Southern students call Southern alumni to update their alumni information, to inform them of the changes happening at Southern, and to ask for financial support of the University. The Phonathon program complements other fundraising efforts such as direct mail appeals.

INTRODUCTION The Master of Arts degree in Romance Languages is designed for students interested in French, Italian, Spanish, or any combination of two of these. It provides advanced training for those who plan to complete their graduate studies in literature, language, literary and cultural theory at the master's level, and for those who anticipate continuing graduate work up to the doctoral degree. The program is tailored to the needs of those who wish: • To teach these languages at the elementary, middle school, or high school levels, whether they are seeking initial certification or cross-endorsement; • To teach these languages at the college level • To work in related fields, such as foreign service, other government service, private industry, translation and interpreting, librarianship, etc. PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY The program is built on three premises: • The teaching of language and culture requires mastery of literary works, from different periods and genres, as well as other forms of cultural production. • Scholarly research and writing, such as is required in graduate courses, is essential for exploring and understanding such production. This kind of explorative activity culminates in a capstone experience (i.e., thesis, comprehensive exams, or special project). • Use of the target language at all times in classroom discussion and the research and writing of examinations and papers, assures fluent, correct and idiomatic mastery of the language. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES The mission of the program is to prepare students with a knowledge of historical, political and social contexts that shape language, literature and culture: • To conduct research using a variety of scholarly resources; • To apply critical analysis and a variety of theories to the study of literature, language and culture; • To write critical analyses of literary works and cultural artifacts from a range of period, currents and genres; • To advance their written and oral communicative abilities in the language of study; • To analyze their target language from a linguistic perspective, including its structure, its comparative historical/cultural development, as well as how this foreign language is acquired; • To engage in informed discussions about linguistic, historical and cultural varieties of their target language; • To articulate the significance of literary and cultural artifacts within their historical and cultural context; • To create original work in the target language. Degrees from outside the U.S. must be evaluated by WES accreditation agency; • An undergraduate degree from an Anglophone university OR TOEFL with the minimum score of 600 OR a passing score on all three sections of PRAXIS I; • Proficiency in the target language at Advanced Low level demonstrated by ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and Written Production Test (WPT); • Writing sample in the target language or English; • A letter of intent in English to explain the candidate's background, reasons for enrolling in the program, and outline areas of interest; • Two letters of recommendation. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS The MA in RL requires a total of 37 credits, consisting of: • 13 core credit hours (4 courses), taught in English to all language concentrations • 18 credit hours of electives (6 courses), taught in the language-specific concentration • a 6-credit Capstone experience (in a 2 semester sequence), with the option of a Comprehensive Examination, a Thesis option, or a Special Project. ******See the "Notes" section here on Facebook for detailed course descriptions for core, elective and capstone courses.****** APPLICATION DEADLINES The MA in Romance Languages has rolling admissions. Welcome to the Slutwalk SCSU official page. The Slutwalk event was created as a group project between women's studies graduate students at SCSU in New Haven, CT in the fall of 2015 as a means to educate the community about and address the injustices served to those who have dealt with rape and sexual harassment. With the help of campus officials, advisors and group of dedicated students, Slutwalk SCSU was established. As part of the 64 days of nonviolence the women studies program has put together a Slutwalk to educate and raise awareness about slut shaming and victim blaming. The event will start in the ballroom of the student center with a diverse panel of speakers, and then we will begin the mile walk around the campus of SCSU. Slut shaming is the deliberate act of calling a woman a slut, a whore or impugning her character in sexual terms in order to embarrass, humiliate, intimidate, degrade or shame her for actions or behaviors that are a normal part of female sexuality. Victim-blaming marginalize the victim/survivor and make it harder to come forward and report the abuse. If the survivor knows that you or society blames the survivor for the abuse, s/he will not feel safe or comfortable coming forward and talking to you. Victim-blaming also reinforce what the abuser has been saying all along; that it is the victim’s fault this is happening. It is NOT the victim’s fault or responsibility to fix the situation; it is the abuser’s choice. By engaging in victim-blaming attitudes, society allows the abuser to perpetrate relationship abuse or sexual assault while avoiding accountability for those actions. Too often in our society, slut-shaming and victim blaming continue to keep women in silence.The slutwalk is to raise awareness about this culture of silence and why it is important to speak out.

We are a student-run organization at SCSU. Active Minds is a national organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and healthy practices at colleges and universities. There are currently over 300 chapters on college campuses across the US.
The Center for Adaptive Technology is a division of Instructional Technology and the Office of Information Technology at Southern Connecticut State University. It was established in 1989 through a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut State University System.
