(LAS VEGAS) – The Chinese American Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Chinatown Plaza is hosting its twentieth annual Chinese New Year Celebration on Sunday, February 9th 2014, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The “Year of the Horse” celebration is located at the Las Vegas Chinatown Plaza at 4255 Spring Mountain Rd. As the largest Asian cultural event in Southern Nevada, the Chinese New Year celebration will feature traditional foods, exhibits and entertainment for the entire family. Such performances include the lion dance, kung fu and martial art demonstrations, acrobats, folk dance, Taiko drummers and noodle stretching. Entertainment will occur between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12. Children 5 and under are free. “As the most important traditional Chinese holiday, this celebration allows us to share with the local community our customs and showcase our culture through music, dance and food,” said James Chen, co-founder and executive director of the Chinese American Chamber of Commerce and principal of the Chinatown Plaza. The 2014 Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, begins on January 31. In Chinese culture, each year is represented by an animal and a person who is born under the year of that animal will display characteristics of that animal. The Chinese New Year is a time for celebration, popping firecrackers, and the popular dragon dance. The Las Vegas Chinese New Year Celebration began in 1994. CFK receives donated computers from individuals, businesses, schools, and governments; repairs and refurbishes them, and then donates fully-equipped computer systems to students in grades K – 14. Free technical support is provided. Along with helping students, “Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle” are key components of our program benefitting the community and the environment. But first and foremost our mission is to enhance student’s education through the use of technology at home. “Bridging the digital divide” through a program of education and community service designed to keep today’s youth knowledgeable and educated in an electronic world.

The LVFDC is a "working" council and is a legitimate Fashion Organization recognized by the City of Las Vegas, Office of the Mayor, as well as the Governor's office of economic and business development. The LVFDC is an organization that goes beyond the glamour of fashion with the intention of cultivating local creative talent and helping them in their creative growth thru educational programs, mentorship, internship, training programs, seminars, and fashion events. Its board of directors are technically trained professionals in design, manufacturing, merchandising, distribution, and marketing, with impressive track records in the Fashion Industry.
