The Civic Center is noted for its acoustics, and is handicapped-accessible. In addition, no seat is more than 145ft away from the stage. All seats are on one level.

The Iowa Architectural Foundation (IAF) is a collective of passionate volunteers working to inspire an appreciation for architecture and design in everyone through education and outreach. As a volunteer-driven non-profit organization, the IAF brings architects and designers, educators and students, and architecture enthusiasts together to improve the quality of life in the state of Iowa through architecture and design.

In 1904, eight architects in Des Moines elected to form a subgroup of The American Institute of Architects. Today, more than 900 AIA Iowa members belong to the Iowa Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The state of Iowa is broken down into five sections: Central Iowa,Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, Eastern Iowa, Northwest Iowa and Southwest Iowa. Individual membership consists of: Member (registered architect); Associate Member (does not hold a license to practice, but holds a professional degree in architecture or is employed by an architect in a technical capacity); Professional Affiliate Member (affiliated design professional); Allied Member (allied to the architectural field); and Student Affiliate (students currently earning a degree in architecture). AIA Iowa also has a membership category entitled Firm Membership, there are currently more than 97 architectural Firm Members. AIA Iowa's mission is to improve the built environment through service to members, the profession, and the public. I. The Polk County Heritage Gallery is a 501(c)(3) organization and is funded solely through entry fees received from gallery-sponsored competitions, gallery rentalfees paid by artists, private donations, and by contributions made by Gallery visitors. The Gallery is also funded in part by grants from Bravo Greater Des Moines and from the Polk County Board of Supervisors. Gallery hours are 11:00 to 4:30, Monday through Friday. Admission is free. The Iowa REAP Alliance is a coalition of recreation, conservation, historical preservation, and sporting organizations dedicated to protecting Iowa’s Resource Enhancement and Protection Program, also known as “REAP”. REAP stands for Resource Enhancement and Protection. It is an Iowa program that is focused on enhancement and protection of the state’s natural and cultural resources. Iowa is blessed with a diverse array of natural and cultural resources, and REAP is likewise diverse and far reaching. Depending on the individual programs, REAP provides money for projects through state agency budgets or in the form of grants. Several aspects of REAP also encourage private contributions that help accomplish program objectives.

Founded in 1935, the ACLU of Iowa (until 2005, known as the Iowa Civil Liberties Union) is the nation’s fifth-oldest state affiliate of the national American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU of Iowa is a non-profit membership organization that promotes and defends the values reflected in the Bill of Rights through public advocacy and outreach, lobbying, and litigation. The ACLU of Iowa is dedicated to upholding the United States Constitution – particularly the First, Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendments. It also supports and works for the improvement civil rights statues, open records/meetings laws, and statutory privacy protections. The ACLU of Iowa’s work is focused on defending the rights to freedom of speech and association and freedom of religion; and the rights of due process, privacy, and equal protection under the law. These rights are also protected by Article I of the Iowa Constitution.

Our signature Cool Congregations program provides practical solutions to climate change by leading workshops which teach participants how to become more energy efficient in their homes and places of worship. In addition, we provide presentations on climate change and the faith community's response to congregations and groups, as well as advocacy on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
