Dental Services is a division of the newly created Department of Dental Medicine and its mission is to provide quality preventive-based patient care in an educational environment, and be a dental public health resource center for dental programs throughout the state of New Mexico. The state of the art facility at Camino De Salud houses the UNM Faculty Practice, UNM Dental Residency Clinic and an Ambulatory Surgery wing. The UNM Faculty Practice and Residency Clinic dentist’s practice side-by-side and offer a combined 17 practitioners. The Residency Clinic is staffed by recent Dental school graduates who have chosen to gain advanced training, rather than immediately enter private practice. The Residents who come to train are typically graduates of the top half of their Dental school class. Their treatment of patients is overseen and mentored by the Dental Services Faculty. The Residency is a 12 month program; consequently a new group of Residents is introduced each year. The Faculty Practice is staffed by full-time Dental Services faculty who have many years of dental practice experience. The faculty allows patients of the Camino De Salud clinic to continue their dental care with the familiarity of a traditional private practice. Both the Faculty Practice and Residency Clinic offer comprehensive dental care including implant dentistry, digital AvaDent 2-visit dentures, sleep dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery services and teeth whitening. The Camino de Salud facility offers patients the opportunity to engage in practical dental care in a state of the art learning center. With 16 rooms, advanced digital and 3D X-ray equipment and highly trained Dental professionals the UNM Dental Services Clinic is in a unique position to offer excellent dental care to the greater UNM/Albuquerque area. The Faculty Practice accepts most major insurance providers including UNM Delta Dental, United Concordia, Metlife and Aetna Cigna. The Residency Clinic accepts a smaller pool of private insurance providers. However, both clinics accept Medicaid. In addition to the Camino de Salud Clinic, UNM Dental Services operates specialized clinics at Carrie Tingley, Novitski Hall and several APS schools. For more information please visit the Department website at DentalMedicine.unm.edu. The Faculty Practice phone number is 505-272-4091 and the Residency Clinic phone number is 505-925-4031. The hours for the Camino de Salud Clinic are Monday – Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-12pm.
