Bikram’s Beginning Hatha Yoga Class is a comprehensive 90-minute class consisting of a series of 26 Asanas (postures) and 2 breathing exercises, developed by Yogiraj Bikram Choudhury in the 1960’s, brought to the USA by Bikram in 1973, and taught and practiced around the world, more and more, ever since. Each posture is done twice with a Savasana (rest pose) between each, holding to the 3 primary principles of Hatha Yoga as explained in the introduction to Bikram’s book.

Have you ever wondered if your child could benefit from yoga? You've heard the claims and you're curious to see if they would calm down a little, do better in school, follow instructions easier.
Our children live in a hurry-up world of busy parents, school pressures, incessant lessons, video games, malls, and competitive sports. We usually don't think of these influences as stressful for our kids, but often they are. The bustling pace of our children's lives can have a profound effect on their innate joy—and usually not for the better.
Studies have shown that yoga can help counter these pressures. When children learn techniques for self-health, relaxation, and inner fulfillment, they can navigate life's challenges with a little more ease. Yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem and body awareness with a physical activity that's noncompetitive. Fostering cooperation and compassion—instead of opposition—is a great gift to give our children.
Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves. Doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with the inner self, and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them. Yoga brings that marvelous inner light that all children have to the surface.
Parents may notice how yoga benefits their kids, but the best judges are the kids themselves. Children who have practiced yoga tell teachers and parents that they are able to concentrate better during the day, focus better on their activities, and pay attention to their tasks -- all the finest endorsements.

Andrew Spurlock established the firm in 1988, to provide an innovative, site-conditioned approach, to both planning and landscape architectural design. He was joined that year by Martin Poirier, who had been a frequent collaborator and colleague since 1981; Marty became a partner in 1990. As the firm has grown in size, the result has been a lively collective collaboration on a broad range of projects that have earned national, state and local awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Institute of Architects and the American Planning Association.
In late 2015, Marty Poirier made his departure from the firm and San Diego – embarking on other opportunities for himself and his family. In 2016 Leigh Kyle, Yu Ju Liu, and Brad Lents joined Andy as owners. They have been with the firm for the past decade and have been instrumental in its management, growth, and success. Together with Andy, Spurlock Landscape Architects continues their practice of creating transformative landscapes that connect people, communities and environments.
