Visitors to Historic Downtown Charleston who want to cool down from the low country heat should head to Wet Willie’s, a bar that serves up 20 different frozen mixed drinks. As soon as you walk in the door you know that Wet Willie’s isn’t your typical establishment with a few blenders behind the bar. Wet Willie’s features permanent frozen drink machines installed in a line behind the bar in rainbow of colors mixing up the bright drinks. It’s like 19 giant Slurpee machines, except these machine are geared for adults. There is a non-alcohol “Weak Willie,” for kids or those abstaining. The sugar-free Call a Cab and “Naked Willie” are sugar-free and carb-free and can also be mixed with any other flavors to any degree. You call it. And even though the bar serves up colorful and fruity drinks, Willie’s does not shy away from making a strong mixture. Several of their homemade recipes include 190-proof grain alcohol or 153-proof Bacardi Rum like the “Attitude Improvement” or the “Shock Treatment.” Several other drinks have interesting ingredients with unique names as they’re mixtures of different drinks. The concoctions are thoroughly explained on the bar’s interactive Web site and can be ordered at the bar. You can play it safe by ordering a more traditional frozen drink like a Strawberry Daiquiri or a Pina Colada. Charleston Tip: A back room called “The Penguin” is a private lounge that can be rented out. It features leather chairs and a 120-inch projection screen. We support local musicians 7 days a week and several charities. PLEASE REMEMBER, DRINKING AND DRIVING DON’T MIX. Wet Willie’s drinks taste great, but contain more alcohol than most “normal” bar drinks. PLEASE drink in moderation. Our staff will not serve anyone who appears intoxicated. Chef Michelle Weaver has created an exciting menu that incorporates tradition without being bound by it, then adds a few touches of the delightfully unexpected. The menu, which changes regularly, is divided into four categories: Pure, Lush, Southern, and Cosmopolitan, each section beautifully reflecting its title, or allow the chef to create your own special tasting menu. Cuisine artist, chef Wes, brings an experience that reaches far beyond his new hometown. Before moving to the lowcountry he began work on a popular Ga restaurant named Plates. He was plucking fresh salmon from the oceanside markets in the state of Washington. Preparing the finest dishes for resort guests from the Painted Dessert to Olympic National Rain Forest. He also has made plenty of home-cooked barbecue for the good folks of North Carolina, who take their smoked pork very seriously. And, of course, Wes has completely changed the menu at The Blind Tiger, and now he has brought the Brown Dog Deli to you right next door. According to Wes, you cant go wrong at either place! From this breadth of experience, Wes puts together a very diverse menu. The Muffaletta is un-paralleled in the city and his Curry Chicken Salad is another top menu item. In addition, he loves to incorporate great Asian influences and, most importantly, the great Southern BBQ cooking he grew up eating. You will find Wes at the deli seven days a week for almost every meal. He is devoted to his craft and the business, and it shows. Regular customers who have tasted all parts of Wes' diverse culinary creations will be glad to tell you they have never had a meal at the Brown Dog Deli they did not enjoy.
