Yvette Currie is currently in private practice in San Diego, California, and is an adjunct professor with National University. She recently assisted with the Wounded Warrior Project, in Mammoth Lakes, California, through the DSES program. Prior to this, she spent 3 years in Yokosuka, Japan, wherein, she worked with US military families. There, she initiated a pilot program with her therapy dog, Bear. He was a resounding success with the service members and the staff and the first, ever, for any Fleet and Family Support Center, in the world. Therapeutic issues tackled included extra marital affairs, trauma, depression, suicidality, anger, domestic violence, porn addiction, and alcohol dependence. While in Japan, Yvette provided psycho educational training for sexual assault victim advocates, the domestically violent/violated, incoming recruits, Sea Bees, and the ombudsmen. As a member of the crisis intervention team, Yvette was called upon to respond to disaster and tragedy, including assisting with crisis management, during the 2011 Japan tsunami/earthquake/radiation disasters. Yvette also responded to the 2004 Cedar Fires in San Diego. Furthermore, Yvette orchestrated pairing world wide speaker, system wide CSPP MFT director, and EFT trainer, Scott Woolley, with the Department of Defense, on Yokosuka Naval base, to provide EFT training, a first. The International Mental Health Professionals of Japan also benefitted from this introduction. Prior to Japan, Yvette worked in a variety of non profit settings, including providing both psychodynamic and process group work to the San Diego YWCA. In addition, Yvette worked within the Grossmont Union School District, providing her services to Chaparral and Homestead High School students. Yvette found these populations to be incredibly rich, rewarding, and enjoyable with whom to work. Among other issues, Yvette addressed homelessness, drug dependence, severe mental illness, and domestic violence, assisting adolescents with conduct disorders, mood disorders, drug and alcohol dependence, and gang affiliations.
