Hebrew Classes - meet on Wednesdays for our 4th, 5th and 6th graders and meet from 6:30-7:30. TZEDAKAH Tzedekah is an important aspect within our curriculum. Donations are collected weekly. Classes decide as a group, with guidance from their teacher, where to donate their collected money. The older students will participate in a “Mitzvah Project”. This may even include a field trip! SPECIAL PROGRAMS Throughout the school year, students and their families will be invited to participate in holiday celebrations and in special programs. These programs are closely tied with the curriculum and your participation is strongly encouraged. Notices for all special activities will be distributed in advance. SHABBAT SERVICES Each class will participate in at least one Shabbat Service during the school year. We hope that you will make every effort to attend that special Shabbat with your child. The class depends upon everyone’s participation and support. MUSIC Several times during the school year we will have a music teacher visit our classrooms. The children will have an opportunity to learn various age appropriate Jewish songs that will tie in with the curriculum. RABBI VISITS The Rabbi visits and teaches each of the classrooms during the school year. Topics include telling stories, singing, teaching about our history/culture/rituals, and answering questions the children may have for her. Each class will schedule one “Family Class Activity” during the year and the Rabbi will lead this activity. Parents will be encouraged to attend and advance notices will be given of these important dates. OZ’REEM PROGRAM Our Religious School Program currently ends with your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah. To continue their growth in our Jewish community, we invite them back to be classroom aides called oz’reem. Some of our oz’reem continue to help in the school through high school, and sometimes will substitute for our teachers and/or tutor our students. This is a paid position . To become an ozer or ozeret, please contact the Religious School Director. B’NAI CHAIM TEMPLE YOUTH (BCTY) (see their Facebook Page) B’nai Chaim has no formal educational program for our high school students at this time. We do have a very active youth group for students in 6th through 12th grades. The group engages in a wide range of activities. Some of these activities include: Regional chavurot or conclaves through NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth), Spaghetti dinner for the congregation as a fundraiser for the youth group events and Camp Rainbow, a summer camp for critically ill children, High Holy Day ushers and many more exciting events. Our teachers and oz’reem are very excited about helping your child/ children learn more about their Judaism. We are all dedicated to the goals of the curriculum and want your child’s Religious School and Hebrew School experiences to be rich, compelling, and enjoyable. This is an exciting time and we are building our future generations of young Jewish children as we teach them about Jewish holidays, rituals, customs, values, Bible stories, and Hebrew. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher, the Rabbi, the Congregational President, or the Educational Director at any time with insights, questions, comments, or concerns.
