The New Hazlett Center for the Performing Arts is the non-profit organization founded in February 2004 to oversee the renovation and launch of the Hazlett Theater as a multi-use performing arts facility. Arts presenters, producers and artists rent the theater for a range of programs, including dramatic theater, dance, family programming, performance-art events, music, and spoken word performances, among other programming options. Theater offerings appeal to children, families, and adult audiences. In 2011, the New Hazlett Theater hosted 32,000 visitors and supported the work of over 50 partners. We vow to continue to have a positive impact on our partners as they strive to reach the next milestones in their own programming. We will maintain a strong, positive presence in the North Side Community. We have made a conscious choice to do more than simply operate a venue. Our vision is that the New Hazlett Theater serves as a place that nurtures the arts and connects with the community.

Since it’s inception, Whim was meant to go above and beyond what the average club goer would expect. Holding an impressive 1100 people, Whim was designed to hold the biggest parties Pittsburgh could offer. The largest nightclub in Pittsburgh had to have the largest sound, so we put in over 60,000 watts of JBL SRX powered sound. Our JBL system has been separated into the 3 types of sound; Bass, Mid-Range, and Treble through the use of 18 inch subwoofers, hanging 15 inch and dual 15 inch 2-way speakers and individual hanging 3 inch tweeter packs. We have done this so that the audio you hear is as accurately reproduced as possible, and that each audio range has been maximized. Our private VIP rooms also hold their own private sound system for your enjoyment. With the biggest sound comes the most lights and Whim’s lighting rig is second to none. Our installation houses 28 concert venue lights that power your emotions over our dance floor. Putting our lights into a nightclub is considered to be completely over the top! Our centerpiece is our one of a kind, 6 legged 30 foot diameter spider truss, which has been utilized to hold our brightest lights and command your attention throughout the night. All of the lights tie into our multi-touch screen and midi interface, which allows our lighting designers to give you countless displays and interactions. Our lighting system is not automatic like most clubs; light designers Jonathan and Kamil have full control via the DJ booth, so that they are in constant communication with the DJ to tailor the lighting for each song. Holding 1100 people can generate quite a heat wave, so Whim currently houses the only double jet Kryogenifex system in the city. Our cryo jets put out a nitrogen blast over the dance floor and cool it to 40 degrees within a matter of seconds! To please the masses, Whim provides 5 full service bars, 21 indoor VIP sections and a few extra outside on our deck that overlook the city. To re-fuel yourself, the famous Lou Dogg hotdog, along with an assortment of other finger foods are available to you. Whim is an open format nightclub, which means we play anything from Top-40, to 80′s hits, to electronic dance music. Resident DJ’s DeVera, CK, Enn Era, Starr and Digital Dave have no rules when it comes to what music they can play, so they have unlimited ways to keep your party going all night! We invite you to find out why we have won best dance club for three years in a row. Come experience Whim! The Winter Garden at Exposition Hall was a multi-purpose facility, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Joseph Stillburg. It stood on the current site of Point State Park. The facility consisted of three buildings: Main Hall, Music Hall and Machinery Hall. The Exposition was originally supposed to be a place for social gatherings where ideas and goods could be freely exchanged; however, the facility later became Pittsburgh's premier indoor ice hockey rink.HistoryOriginsIn 1885, Western Pennsylvania Exposition Society, commonly called the Pittsburgh Exposition Society, was organized. During this era international expositions, state and county fairs and municipal expositions were very common. In fact, the Exposition Society was an outgrowth of an association that conducted the earlier expositions on the city's North Shore, on the spot where Exposition Park, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates until, stood. The society was a non-profit-sharing organization, having been established by public-spirited citizens for the benefit of the community. The Pittsburgh Exposition, were determined to have a venue that offered the feel of a county fair with the mystique of a World's Fair. A year after the society formed, the Pittsburgh City Council approved the purchase of land at the city's Point, along the shore of the Allegheny River. Exposition lifetime memberships and popular subscriptions raised nearly $1 million to complete the facility's construction. The city then granted the organization a 50-year lease.
