Shades of Green is a resort owned by the United States Department of Defense (DOD) in the city of Bay Lake, Florida, near Orlando, Florida on Walt Disney World property. It is one of four Armed Forces Recreation Centers (AFRC) resorts and a part of the military's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program (MWR). The resort, which was expanded between 2004-2006, is self-supporting and operates from non-appropriated funds and all profits are put back into the resort.Resort detailsShades of Green is located near the Magic Kingdom, just southwest of the Polynesian Village Resort. The resort is not, however, on the monorail loop that services the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Transportation around Walt Disney World is provided exclusively by a separate fleet of buses which shuttle guests to and from the Transportation and Ticket Center, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney Springs and the water parks.Shades of Green does not have a pervasive theme like other Disney resorts, and the general decor is that of a modern country club. Exposed roof beams and arches of hewn stone give the resort an American Craftsman feel. The main staircase encircles a two story rock formation with waterfalls flowing through it. The resort is located in a wooded setting complete with waterfalls and tropical gardens. The resort has 586 guest rooms, most of which are standard guest rooms with over 480sqft of floor space.

The Walt Disney World Resort is an entertainment complex in Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, Florida, near Orlando and Kissimmee, Florida. The resort is the flagship destination of Disney's worldwide corporate enterprise. Opened on October 1, 1971, Walt Disney World is the most visited vacation resort in the world, with an attendance of over 52 million people annually. The resort is owned and operated by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, a division of The Walt Disney Company. It was initially operated by Walt Disney World Company. The property covers 27258acres, housing twenty-seven themed resort hotels, nine non–Disney hotels, four theme parks, two water parks, several golf courses, a camping resort, and other entertainment venues. Magic Kingdom was the first theme park to open in the complex, in 1971, followed by Epcot in 1982, Hollywood Studios in 1989, and the most recent, Animal Kingdom in 1998. Designed to supplement Disneyland in Anaheim, California, which had opened in 1955, the complex was developed by Walt Disney in the 1960s. "The Florida Project", as it was known, was intended to present a distinct vision with its own diverse set of rides. Walt Disney's original plans also called for the inclusion of an "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow" (EPCOT), a planned community intended to serve as a test bed for new city living innovations. After extensive lobbying, the Government of Florida created the Reedy Creek Improvement District, a special government district that essentially gave The Walt Disney Company the standard powers and autonomy of an incorporated city. Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, before construction began. Without Disney spearheading the construction, the company created a resort similar to Disneyland, abandoning experimental concepts for a planned community.

Additional design inspiration was taken from the Belleview-Biltmore Hotel in Belleair, Florida. The resort's outer lodge buildings — Sago Cay, Sugarloaf Key, Conch Key, Boca Chica and Big Pine Key—are named for islands in the Florida Keys. We are the largest and most trusted source of Disney Vacation Club Rentals in the world and many have saved THOUSANDS of dollars on their Disney vacations and you can too. No Membership is required. We have inventories of rooms located on Disney property at the Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Hawaii, South Carolina and the Florida Atlantic coast for rent. Rather than reserve one of these rooms directly through Disney Central Reservations, we have access to the same rooms through members of the Disney Vacation Club at prices that will leave you asking "HOW?". These rooms, classified by Disney as "Deluxe Disney Villas", are all located within the Disney Vacation Club resorts. You DO NOT need to be a member. The reservation will be in your name and you will check in at the regular Disney Resort arrival desk. Similar to a reservation booked through Disney Central Reservations, the room will be assigned to you by the Disney Resort Cast Members on your arrival. You will treated the same as every Disney Resort Guest and you will have access to all of the same amenities and and perks afforded to each and every guest staying at a Disney Resort. The biggest difference is you won't have a room bill to pay when you check out unless you make charges on your room with your Key to the World Card or Magic Band (new Disney feature). Check in any day of the week and stay as little (2 days) or as long (31 days) as you like. It is not necessary to arrive on a weekend and it is not necessary to stay a full week. This is not a timeshare solicitation, no presentations are offered and your information is not shared with anyone outside of the booking member and Disney (of course).
