LaVell Edwards Stadium is an outdoor athletic stadium in Provo, Utah on the campus of Brigham Young University (BYU). Primarily used for college football, it is the home field of the BYU Cougars. The playing field is natural grass and is at an elevation of 4,649 feet (1411 m) above sea level. The field runs in the conventional north-south direction, with the press box along the west sideline.History and seatingThe stadium opened on the north end of campus in 1964 as Cougar Stadium, replacing a smaller, 5,000-seat stadium of the same name. The capacity of the facility was just under 30,000 with stands on both sides of the playing field. Seating was soon added to make room for 35,000 fans. Temporary bleachers placed at the back of the end zones raised the capacity to 45,000. The stadium was expanded in 1982 to accommodate more than 65,000; permanent concrete stands in the end zones, separated by entryways from the east and west grandstands, were put in place of the temporary bleachers. The playing field was lowered eight feet (2.4 m), and the running track was removed to make room for six additional rows. Following the retirement of legendary head coach LaVell Edwards after the 2000 football season, the stadium was renamed in his honor. To increase revenue, the stadium was renovated in 2003 to provide more luxury seating, which resulted in a slight reduction of seating capacity to 64,045. The luxury seating was a noticeable addition because the arrangement of blue and white seats in this section spell out BYU in block letters. On August 30, 2008, BYU unveiled a new video board on the north endzone, allowing fans seated in the south endzone to see the instant replays and graphics which previously were shown only on the south board. During the summer of 2010, the capacity of the stadium was further reduced due to some renovations that allowed for more wheelchair accessibility. Currently, a crowd of 63,470 (or more) is considered a sellout at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

The Provo Utah Temple is the 17th constructed and 15th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . Located in the city of Provo, Utah, it was built with a modern single-spire design, similar to the original design of the Ogden Utah Temple.Since Provo’s early years, a hill just northeast of downtown Provo was known as "Temple Hill." Instead of a temple, however, the Maeser Building was built on the hill in 1911 as a part of the Brigham Young University campus. A 17acre block of property at the base of Rock Canyon was chosen as the site for the Provo Temple. The intention to construct a temple in Provo was announced by the LDS Church on August 14, 1967, and a groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 15, 1969, with construction beginning soon thereafter. Emil B. Fetzer, the architect for the Ogden and Provo temples, was asked to create a functional design with efficiency, convenience, and reasonable cost as key factors. The temple was dedicated on February 9, 1972, by LDS Church president Joseph Fielding Smith. The two dedicatory services were broadcast to several large auditoriums on the BYU campus, including the 22,700-seat Marriott Center. The temple has 6 ordinance rooms and 12 sealing rooms, and has a total floor area of 128325sqft. Thirty-one years after the temple's completion, a statue of the Angel Moroni was added to the spire, which itself was changed from gold to white.

BYU Tunnel Singing

South of BYU Marriott Center
Provo, UT 84602

Tunnel Singing is a BYU tradition. It was begun in 1989 by a small group of friends. Tunnel Singing is an opportunity to gather together with others and sing hymns. It is held every Sunday night at 10:00 pm, year-round, in the tunnel just south of the Marriott Center. Tunnel Singing is led by students. As students go on missions, graduate, or become more busy, the opportunity to lead is passed on to others. Anyone is welcome to attend Tunnel Singing as long as they are respectful to BYU standards. Can I sing in another language? Yes! In fact, there is Spanish Tunnel Singing year-round at 9:15 pm. Portuguese speakers are welcome to sing with us at Spanish Tunnel Singing, too. If you would like to request a song, come to Tunnel Singing early and talk to the leader. Because there are so many people who come, especially for English Tunnel Singing, we usually can’t take requests during Tunnel Singing without it becoming too loud and chaotic between songs. SHORT Q&A Why does Tunnel Singing exist? We want to give students an opportunity to sing in a low-commitment environment, where they can feel the Spirit and have fun. Many people come with their friends, or members of their ward. Others come alone. We want everyone to feel welcome! We are close to on-campus housing, so many first-year students come. We also have older students, and returned missionaries. Sometimes people's parents come, who are visiting. Who comes to Spanish Tunnel Singing? We have many returned missionaries who come. In addition, we have several beginning Spanish speakers. Singing is one of the best ways to learn a language, because you learn to pronounce each syllable precisely. We also invite Portuguese speakers to sing with us. BYU has a French Choir, a German Choir, an Italian Choir, a Russian Choir, and even a Welsh Choir; but there are no Spanish or Portuguese choirs. We feel that we fill a unique need.

The BYU Museum of Paleontology was built in 1976 to prepare, display, and house the rock and dinosaur fossils collected by Dr. James A. Jensen and his crews. Over decades of field work, Dr. Jensen and crews gathered fossils from locations in Utah, Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming. For years, the vast collections of the unprepared field jackets were stored under the BYU football stadium. Now, with the new 5,000 square-foot addition, and years of laboratory preparation, nearly all of the fossils are kept at the museum in the collections room. As part of the BYU educational system, the Museum of Paleontology provides labs and hands-on learning to university students. The museum is also a popular attraction for school groups throughout Utah. Each month school groups visit the museum to take tours and learn more about ancient plants and dinosaurs.
