Patrick Abney has been doing magic since he was a kid and started doing Kids Magic Entertainment across the greater San Diego in the fall of 2013. Opportunity sprung for a chance to open a Magic Shop in Old Town San Diego. In November 2013, they opened the Old Town Magic Cart. It was a cute and quant cart that sold a variety of magic and gags. In May 2014, Patrick and MaryJo took a huge leap in their business, closing the cart and opening the Abney's Magic Shop. A 700 sq ft Magic Shop in the heart of Old Town San Diego. The veteran owned and operated Magic Shop has a variety of Magic; Gags; one of the largest collection of custom Playing Cards in San Diego; a conjuring corner with tarot cards, pendulums, mystery wands and more; kendamas and wooden novelty toys; face painting supplies and services; magicians ready to demo our magic; and magicians for hire! Recently added, the Abney's Magic Shop now offers Magic Workshops for all ages (morning and afternoon for kids and evenings for adults) and youth camps during school breaks. Evangely has been involved with ministry work for many years. When she was ready to enter into the venture of becoming a small business owner, it was clear to her that the nature of the business had to be Fair Trade. Fair trade is a method of commerce where artisans, from developing countries, are paid fair, sustainable wages for their work. Fair trade promotes respect for human dignity, empowers disadvantaged people, particularly women, protects the environment and protects workers’ rights – no child labor! At the time when Evangely was ready to start a small business she worked for a humanitarian agency that promoted Fair Trade. She did a lot of research as to what type of business, product and possible locations to open. One night, the idea of fair trade came to her and she felt very inspired by it. She realized it would become her new ministry! In October of 2010, Around the World Gifts was opened at a kiosk in Horton Plaza, in beautiful downtown San Diego, CA.. At the beginning of 2011, the business moved to its current location, in Old Town San Diego. Being a small business owner has not been easy but with the support of her husband, Gerrit, the business continues to survive in this economy. We also continue to participate at local events to help promote and support fair trade in San Diego!
