Our traditional style of martial arts is in the direct lineage of the Song Moo Kwan which was founded by Grandmaster Byong Jick Ro. The teachings of Grandmaster Ro were brought to the United States from Korea by several trustworthy students. One of whom was Il Joo Kim. One of Grandmaster Kim's first students was Bob Chaney. Master Chaney continued to carry on the traditions of the Song Moo Kwan Kuk Ki Ryu while pursuing the knowledge of Muay Thai kickboxing as well as other martial arts. The teachings of Master Chaney were entrusted to Master Gary Mattevi who continues to carry on the traditions of the Song Moo Kwan Kuk Ki Ryu, the teachings of Master Chaney while pursuing the knowledge of other martial arts. Gary & Kim Mattevi have shared their passion for the martial arts for many years. Together they have built and operated martial arts academies for many years. They have had the privilege seeing first hand the positive impact that martial arts training can have on students of all ages. We are a proud affiliate school of the Pedro Sauer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association. Teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Gracie tradition.
Stand on the stage or run the show behind the scenes. The performing arts are integral to the Greensboro Day School experience. Our students study studio and dramatic arts as well as band, orchestral, and choral music - and learn as much about themselves as they do about the arts. Performing Arts students are given every opportunity to learn about what it takes to make it in the "real world" of performing. Not only are our Performing Arts faculty and staff seasoned professionals in their craft, our students are also offered regular master classes with Emmy and Tony Award-winning directors, Emmy and Tony Award-winning performers and major casting directors. They have even performed ON Broadway with major Broadway stars. At the Day School we strive to produce the absolute highest level of performance and give students the chance to turn natural talents into sophisticated skills.
