A unit of the School of Health Professions, the KU Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science is located on the University of Kansas Medical Center campus in Kansas City, Kansas. The KU School of Health Professions offers more than 25 academic programs in health care careers, ranging from undergraduate to advanced graduate study, including several doctorate programs. Formerly known as Allied Health, Health Professions is one of three schools located at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
As one of the top kidney research centers in the country, the University of Kansas Medical Center's Kidney Institute gives hope to those with kidney disease. Our research teams identify risk factors that affect the progression of kidney disease and we develop improved treatments. With more than 35 KU faculty physician scientists and some 100 research associates, our nephrology program ranks No. 15 in U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals 2012-13. This is the fourth straight year that we have been recognized amongst the nation's top 50 nephrology programs.
Our department is funded by grants from the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and the National Foundation for Cancer Research. The Department of Cancer Biology utilizes a variety of in vivo and in vitro experimental systems.
Eligibility and Requirements To be considered for admission into KU's PhD in Rehabilitation Science program, the following are required: Degree A baccalaureate degree must be completed prior to start of the program. Applicants are not required to be a physical therapist or possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physical Therapy. Applicants are encouraged to have a broad background in biological sciences (including anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, biochemistry, genetics, and cellular and molecular biology), calculus and statistics. Students with degrees from a university outside the U.S. may be considered provided they meet the requirements equivalent to a bachelor's degree from a program in the U.S. Graduate Record Examination Score Students must have taken the GRE within the past five (5) years and submit scores for sections Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing. Grade Point Average An overall minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (on a 4.0-scale) is required. Background Check The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations requires all incoming students to pay for a background check. This one-time fee must be paid directly to the company performing the background investigation. You will be asked to provide information and make the payment once you have been officially accepted into the program. Applications for the program must be received by February 1 to qualify for the next class. International Students: An applicant is considered an international student if he or she requires a visa, or currently resides in the U.S. with non-immigrant status, or currently resides in the U.S. while applying for permanent residency. Additional requirements and documentation, such as proof of English language proficiency, are required for international students to become eligible for KU programs. The University of Kansas offers a two-year innovative program with intensive training using the latest technology in combination with real-world experience for students interested in the Clinical Laboratory Science field. The program has been successfully accredited for over 80 years and offers students the opportunity to obtain American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification as Medical Laboratory Scientists (generalist) and/or the opportunity to obtain ASCP certification as Molecular Biotechnologist’s upon the completion of the Bachelor of Science program. The Department also offers a Master’s in Molecular Biotechnology.

Located at the Kansas University Medical Center, our staff - which includes physicians, scientists and trainees representing the fields of adult stem cell biology, neurology, oncology, hematology cardiac and vascular, endocrine and other sub-specialties - are dedicated to providing research, clinical trials and information on adult stem cell treatment options for various diseases. The Midwest Stem Cell Therapy Center (MSCTC) was created in 2013 after the Kansas Legislature and Governor Sam Brownback approved our formation. We are governed by Buddhadeb Dawn, MD, who is the director, and fourteen other advisory board members, who meet on a quarterly basis to discuss progress and direction. The MSCTC provides clinical trials, basic research and information regarding adult (non-embryonic) stem cell treatments.
The University of Kansas Medical Center Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is pursuing excellence in clinical care, resident and medical student education, and research in diseases of the head and neck. The department consists of physician scientists, nurses, speech pathologists, and audiologists all committed to developing and practicing cutting edge care for ear, nose and throat disorders.
This laboratory is interested in the development of effective exercise interventions that maximize cardiovascular health in people with and without disease. Using non-invasive methods to study the heart, lungs, brain and vascular system, the REACH lab is interested in understanding the cellular processes that modulate vascular function in those with disease and whether exercise interventions can improve vascular health.
