I join the Army National Guard as a Junior from Hoover High School. I am now a Recruiter in the City of San Diego and all I gotta say is that I love my Job!!! The incredible versatility of the National Guard enables its troops to respond to domestic emergencies, combat missions, counterdrug efforts, reconstruction missions and more—all with equal speed, strength and efficiency. Whether the call is coming from the state governor or directly from the president of the United States, Guard Soldiers are always ready and always there. You'll serve your community, your state and your country. As a Guard Soldier, you can expect your primary area of operation to be your home state, following the leadership of your state adjutant general and governor. This may include community efforts, responding to wildfires or floods. Or, it may include serving overseas, training foreign forces. You will also be prepared to mobilize when directed by the president. This may include overseas service or domestic, such as serving along the U.S.-Mexico border. So, what does the National Guard do? Whatever is needed, wherever it is needed.

DCASE establishes and provides a continuum of professional damage control training in support of ship survivability requirements that prepares USN and USCG officers and senior enlisted to serve at sea in senior damage control leadership positions. The course is seven weeks in length and convenes six times per year in San Diego and five times per year in Norfolk (Norfolk also provides the International Damage Control Course). The DEFY Program is specifically designed for the 9-12 year old target population, a group described as “at risk” to become involved in substance abuse, gangs, and crime. Leading up to this involvement are a number of risk factors, including poor grades & attendance at school, poor social skills, and a lack of a supportive and caring environment at home. DEFY is based on best practices determined by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) and is designed to strengthen factors that make youth more resilient to negative influences. The curriculum addresses those skills and factors.
