Linking University of Hartford’s commitment to community and Hillel’s Jewish values, Hartford Hillel welcomes students of all backgrounds and fosters an enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning, and Israel. University of Hartford Hillel is committed to providing opportunities for students to celebrate, discover, and experience Judaism in a pluralistic and welcoming environment. Hillel offers students an opportunity to learn about themselves and strengthen their Jewish identity. In 1893, ten young women at Lombard College in Galesburg, Illinois, shared a vision and a dream of a national organization dedicated to the personal growth of women. Their dream became Alpha Xi Delta, one of the oldest women’s fraternities in the United States. The timeless ideals envisioned by Alpha Xi Delta’s Founders remain constant throughout the years, inspiring pride in each member to pursue individual excellence. Now a national fraternity with more than 150,000 initiated members, our Fraternity is a progressive organization with college chapters and alumnae associations throughout the United States. Alpha Xi Delta is proud of its rich history and lasting impact on its members and the Panhellenic community. In fact, Alpha Xi Delta’s first National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) Chairman wrote the Panhellenic Creed, which all members of NPC still recite on college campuses today. Alpha Xi Delta’s Founders left us a great legacy. They taught us the value of education because it frees us to achieve our goals and gives us the power to be whatever we choose. They taught us to support one another through shared experiences and understanding. They taught us to serve others and reach out to better the lives of those less fortunate. Because of them, Alpha Xi Delta continues to inspire countless bold and talented women to realize their potential. Since Alpha Xi Delta’s founding over 118 years ago, we continue to enrich the lives of women throughout the world with by emphasizing the ideals our Founders instilled in our Fraternity: sisterhood, leadership, knowledge and service to our communities. We fully embrace these ideals and the opportunity to bring them to college women.
Our four-year program leads to a certificate of completion in Radiologic Technology and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Science. The curriculum consists of basic science and math, general education including humanities, arts, and social sciences; and professional radiography core courses. Students are able to practice various radiographic procedures and techniques within our fully energized x-ray laboratory. Students also complete clinical rotations at our local affiliate institutions. This "hands-on" experience occurs under the supervision of practicing medical imaging professionals and affords students the opportunity to clinically apply what they've learned in the classroom and lab.

Design Global Change began as an idea for an assignment in the course Issues in Design, taught by Assistant Professor Natacha Poggio at University of Hartford, Connecticut, USA. In Spring 2008, Prof. Poggio partnered with Engineers Without Borders Student Chapter at the University of Hartford to create a sanitation campaign "Water for India" for Abheypur, a small village in northern India. The campaign began as an assignment for her students, but after the semester ended, the project kept moving forward. The students' ideas were sent to Abheypur, where villagers reviewed the work and returned it with feedback. Seven students from the original class volunteered over the next four months to revise the chosen campaign and later traveled to Abheypur in January 2009 to implement the campaign, including a painted mural at a girls' primary school. The following year, in partnership with ACESS (Africa Center for Engineering Solutions) students developed "Afya Kwanzaa," a wellness campaign for communities in the Lake Victoria region, in Kenya. This time, students designed "kangas" (traditional cotton garments that Sub-Saharan women wear) with messages promoting sanitation, sustainable agriculture, disease prevention and women's safety. As the projects grew larger, and students began to graduate, Design Global Change emerged as an organization (we'd like to call it a movement!), which continues to work on humanitarian projects in India, Kenya and other communities, locally in Hartford and New Haven, as well as Ghana and Nicaragua, through our partner organizations. We welcome enthusiastic and passionate people from any disciplines with a desire to use their creativity to make the world a better place. Join the movement!

The mission of Breakthrough Magnet II - North Campus (formerly Breakthrough II) is for staff, families, and community members of diverse backgrounds to work in partnership to develop students as models of outstanding character. Students learn problem solving, responsible choice-making, and the value of keeping their agreements. Character development permeates our broad-based instruction, producing students with academic rigor, aesthetic appreciation, technological expertise, and physical expressiveness aimed at contributing to the well being of others. At Breakthrough Magnet II - North Campus, we celebrate our global community, and our students’ resultant lives are marked by vitality, effectiveness, health, and well being. Breakthrough Magnet II - North Campus is a school where families and teachers work together for academic success. We stress purposeful learning in which students gain knowledge, utilize higher-order thinking, exercise the mind and body, and value the educational experience. Parent participation is key to student success. It can take many forms, including but not exclusive to: attending school assemblies, serving as a member of our school governance council, volunteering in classrooms, serving as a member of our PTO, attending school events and parent training, or chaperoning a field trip. We also support parents doing school-friendly activities at home such as reading with their child, supervising homework, preparing their child for school, or playing games together. The Breakthrough Magnet II - North Campus model is organized around a rich character development theme, which permeates all that we do with students, parents, staff, and community members. Breakthrough students are instructed in various problem-solving strategies and communication techniques. These include HA HA SO strategies for handling bullies, the use of I-messages, use of committed complaints (those made with the commitment to finding a solution), making requests and negotiating agreements, and using a 4-step problem solving approach.
