The 360° Project is a non-profit program designed to address two major issues facing our community—youth violence in our streets and high euthanasia rates in our shelters. We create a solution by pairing at risk youth with neglected and abused dogs, and the results are astounding. We are in need of funds to help expand the program to further serve our community’s youth and canines. The 360° Project (formally Project H.E.A.L.) was started by a police officer, an animal control officer and his wife, a retired educator and a business owner who wanted to offer something different to the community’s at risk youth. By taking what the community deems as “throw away kids” in our Juvenile Detention Center and pairing them with “throw away dogs” from the city’s shelter, we are able to make a connection between the two that goes beyond words. The kids learn life lessons such as empathy, compassion, persistence and patience while the animals learn manners and social skills that make them more appealing to potential adopters. It is truly a win-win for everyone. The 360° Project was even recognized for our extraordinary accomplishments by Mayor Pete Buttigieg in his 2014 State of the City Address.

Founded in 1904, the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Joseph County began as a Catholic lay organization to meet the needs of the poor in our community. More than 100 years later, we are staying true to our mission. Since 1904, we have expanded our programs and now serve more than 70,000 people each year. We provide financial assistance, emergency food, clothing and furniture vouchers, low cost goods through our thrift stores, and educational resources to break the cycle of poverty. We are the only nonprofit organization that provides emergency services by doing into a person’s home. As a nonprofit organization, we rely on donations from those in our community, whether someone donates their time, money, or material goods.
