We are a family run, italian bistro. We try to make in house as much as we can, including bread, some pasta and all the desserts. We come from the Amalfi coast, which to me, is one of the most beautiful and colorful places in the world .My sister (my business partner) recently moved from Italy, and she is in charge of the kitchen while I run the front of the house. We've been in the restaurant business for as long as I can remember. I was nine when my father decided to open his first trattoria in the Salerno area. The year was 1970. It seems like yesterday! From then on, it's always been the food industry. Cooking it's just second nature for us; a way of life. We hope you enjoy your dining experience with us! Antonio and Maria Pia (Owners)
Legend has it that the inception of the Poutine dates back to 1957 in a restaurant right outside the city of Montreal in Canada’s French speaking province of Quebec. A customer asked the restaurant owner to mix cheese curds and gravy into his fries. The restaurateur then responded: “Ça va faire une maudite poutine”, an attribution to the French expression: “It will make a damn Mess”. Poutine is perfect for lunch, dinner, date or even as a greasy, salty after-party munchies. Without a doubt, there’s always a line outside the St-Viateur bagel shops in Montreal as the locals patiently wait for their fresh bagels. Inside, you will find a baker hand-rolling and twisting dough into thin rings before dipping the dough into honey-sweetened water. The bagels are then baked to perfection in the wood-burning ovens. Using the same recipe since 1957, St-Viateur Bagel is Montreal’s longest-running bagel bakery. As a gourmet comfort food destination, Mess Royale is poised to bring the magic of Montreal-style Poutine and Bagels to San Diego. Mess Royale is committed to conserving water and reducing energy consumption by using all natural, recycled and renewable products to serve you! Our mission is to make delicious food using fresh quality ingredients.

Fig Tree Café began in the fall of 2008 with owner Johan Engman’s simple mission rooted in the creation of an inviting and genuine dining experience. Since opening the first location in Pacific Beach, Fig Tree Café planted a second restaurant in the middle of San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood at 416 University Avenue. In Hillcrest, Fig Tree Café features an urban modern open kitchen concept, enabling patrons to observe the culinary action. The eatery is easily intimate with chameleon-like characteristics. It operates as an on-the-go spot for daytime diners serving the finest breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. Playing host to the Pacific Beach crowd, the original café inhabits an old cottage with a dog-friendly patio, surrounded by a garden-like setting just off the beach-goers’ beaten path. According to local lore, the flagship locale even includes an old putting green, left intact underneath the deck. The most recent branch sprouted in August 2013 in the Liberty Station development. Rustic wine barrels flank the indoor bar, made from wood which once supported stairs to the deck of Chef Alberto Morreale’s home. Dining al-fresco is enjoyable on a patio built for up to 50 of Point Loma’s finest folks. The mesh of necessity and creativity cultivates a warm vibe supported by honestly reclaimed décor. Each incarnation of Fig Tree Café is uniquely designed to fit the neighborhood niche and the three establishments share a commitment to using homegrown rosemary, selecting produce and eggs from a family farm in Ramona and giving back to their respective communities. Fig Tree Café’s menu presents diners with the depths of California’s culinary culture, serving authentic and mouthwatering dishes at reasonable neighborhood prices.
