Washington, DC 20005

(202) 955-0075

Affectionately called the "Embassy of Latin America in DC," Mio has captured the hearts and palates of DC’s most influential Latin Americans with a convivial table and open kitchen culture. Inspired by the Mio family of foodies who join us for dinner to connect with friends, culture and the flavors they left back home, we have set out to push the boundaries of traditional dishes with fresh creativity and are excited to share the launch of our “Cocina Abierta” concept with renowned Puerto Rican Chef and friend Giovanna Huyke as our resident Chef for 2012. Our new Cocina Abierta menu combines casual and familiar with creative and authentic. Chef Huyke has curated a unique menu from Latin America’s most influential cuisine capitals into dishes that are sophisticated in flavor yet true to their origins. In our kitchen all are welcome, the summers on the beach in the Caribbean, a Sunday parillada, the corner taqueria, cevicheria, lechonera and the arepera all in one place because we believe that there is a Chef for a Day in all of us. Being Latin is not required to enjoy Mio but once here you will find that a part of you already is. La Cocina esta Abierta! Manuel y Karla

Empanadas are crescent-shaped turnovers, stuffed with well-seasoned combinations of meats, vegetables, spices, fruits, and sweets. Our recipes are inspired by the idea of Latin Fusion cuisine; a culinary concept based on creating new recipes by combining traditional and modern culinary techniques and mixing ingredients from different countries in the Americas. We make our own dough, fresh daily, with 100% natural ingredients. We also use no lard so our dough is the only vegan dough around! We have a variety of savory empanadas to choose from such as our carne, chicken pesto, or the jamon y queso. We also have seafood and veggie empanadas and a variety if dipping sauces like salsa verde, aji, chimi, and pimenton. Your complete satisfaction is our top priority here at Panas Gourmet. We welcome you to our restaurant to enjoy a delicious taste of Latin cuisine. Join us for your next meal.

At Keren Restaurant and Coffee Shop you will discover that Eritrean cuisine is a fusion of Eritrea's native culinary traditions, and the area's long history of trade and social interchanges with other regions and cultures. Truly a pan-Asian fusion of cuisine, culture and history! An Introduction to Eriteran Cuisine Shahan ful is usually simplified to ful and is a common Eritrean dish that is generally served for breakfast. It is made by slowly cooking fava beans in water then crushing them into a coarse paste. It is often served with chopped green onions, tomatoes, hot green peppers, as well as yogurt, feta cheese, olive oil, lemon juice, berbere (special Eritrean spices), and cumin. It is typically eaten with your hands and a bread roll. It can also be eaten with injera (flatbread made from teff, wheat, or sorghum). Injera is a yeast-risen flatbread with a unique, slightly spongy texture. Often made out of teff flour it is a national dish in Eritrea. Berbere is a spice mixture whose ingredients usually include chili peppers, garlic, ginger, dried basil, korarima, rue, white and black pepper, and fenugreek. More to come soon! Keep checking back!

Upon entering, our signature pistachio and cream color scheme gives the feeling of stepping into a bowl of vanilla frosting. The aroma of freshly-baked desserts crowding the plush marble counter tops, shabby-chic style furniture, and vintage dessert prints cluttering the walls create for an inviting atmosphere that not only encourage the palate, but make you feel right at home. Our desserts are decorated in that rudimentary fashion that only moms are known for and are thus approachable yet enticing. Even more, our desserts are made with the best ingredients - dark chocolate of the highest quality, local produce – and we bake them fresh every day. It is no surprise that the actual taste of our moist and decadent desserts will make you come back for more. In no time, you'll be an addict, not only to our products but the brand as a whole.
