Beachside Bar & Grill is the embodiment of our passion to create a casual, fun, beach restaurant with an emphasis on fresh, local, delicious food and beverages. Nestled into a cozy corner in the heart of Rehoboth Avenue, the historic building presented many challenges while being converted into a restaurant, including the discovery of old gas tanks buried under what is now the dining room floor! The building served a gas and service station as late as the 1960’s. Eventually, the owners coaxed a comfortable, casual design from the old bones of the structure. The casual and irreverent modern decor is highlighted by barn wood reclaimed from historic farms throughout Delaware and Southern Chester County Pennsylvania. Custom light fixtures conceived by interior designer Kate Poole and fashioned from scratch add to the unique decor. The modern American menu has quickly become a local favorite, serving exceptional bar fare, sandwiches, and salads in an eclectic atmosphere. The one-of-a-kind horseshoe-shaped bar is a fun crowd favorite, serving micro draft and bottle beers and drinks made from fresh squeezed oranges, limes and fruit. Beachside Bar and Grill has quickly garnered a large following of locals and tourists alike. The entire staff has put extraordinary effort into our hospitality and food. Origins of the Blackwall Hitch: In 1862 the shipping industry was strong in London's Blackwall Port and ships were in and out in quick order. Many families left their farms and machine posts to engage in an adventure that would not only change their world, but the world we enjoy today. The ships set sail and docked at the sandy coasts of Maryland and Virginia and other parts of the Eastern Seaboard. The strong hooks attached to the docks were the only connection the boats would have, and a nimble shipmate would need to dock the boat and make it secure in a flash. The unique blackwall hitch knot allows for a fast connection as the line draws itself tighter and tighter as the vessel rises and falls with the tide. The Connection: The Blackwall Hitch restaurant will draw on this rich history of exploration, adventure, and especially connection.
