According to Tito Puente, the Palladium was the first instance of voluntary desegregation. New York’s Palladium Ballroom made history when it opened its doors to all races and became one of the world’s hottest music and dance spots. Relive the magic when the La Leyenda Latin Big Band joins forces with the Eileen Torres Dancers in an expanded version of last year’s festival hit. A kaleidoscope of dance styles and original tunes in the style of Tito Puente, Machito, Tito Rodriguez and others celebrate this distinctive place and time. DJ Bruno, portrays an elderly Puerto Rican character, Eduardo Rendon that was a regular at the Palladium. "Fast Eddy" as he was known shares his recollections of the glory days at the "Home of the Mambo" while being interviewed by magazine reporter, Carla Silva as played by Eileen Torres. During the interview that takes place over several days, the audience is given glimpses into the rich and colorful history of the Palladium. Eduardo takes us on a trip down memory lane as he paints a vivid portrait of the Palladium as experienced first hand those many decades ago. We need to better serve DC’s children with more recreational opportunities close to home. Let's make DC healthier and more sustainable. Let's put public lands that are underutilized and contributing to environmental problems towards their best and highest use. Creating local jobs and transforming an underutilized parking lot on the banks of the Anacostia with a regenerative design that will create much needed play space for our children. Our vision includes investing in improved facilities for the existing Farmers Market, creating green space that will reduce runoff to the river, providing ecological education opportunities that link to the work underway on Kingman Island and the Anacostia restoration, and linking to the new hiker-biker trail network and American Great Outdoors Initiative.
