Merritt Bookkeeping was founded in 2009. Jordan Merritt was working as an accountant when his mother asked him for help with the bookkeeping for her small business. In helping her out he realized that most small business owners are going to be completely lost when it comes to doing their own bookkeeping. And they are not going to have the budget to hire someone full time. Thats when he decided to leave his job and focus on building a bookkeeping company that would offer an easy, affordable, and professional remote bookkeeping service to small businesses nationwide. So here we are, let us know how we can help!

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society was founded in 1904 as a private, non-profit organization authorized by President Theodore Roosevelt to come to the aid of widows and orphans of service members killed in action. Not only did the organization provide monetary relief, but also job training so that widows could eventually provide for themselves. The Society is incorporated in the District of Columbia and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. Sponsored by the Department of the Navy, the Society operates nearly 250 offices ashore and afloat at Navy and Marine Corps bases worldwide. The Society accomplishes this mission principally through the disbursement of interest-free loans and grants. Furthermore, NMCRS also offers Combat Casualty Assistance (CCA) visiting nurse program, budget counseling, thrift shops, food lockers, and infant layettes through our Budget for Baby program. The Society also provides scholarships and interest-free loans for higher education. More than 3,600 trained volunteers accomplish the majority of the Society's work while supported by a small cadre of employees. NMCRS enjoys an active partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps and benefits extensively from the active involvement of the command structure on bases where the Society maintains a presence. Today, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society fulfills basic needs in the lives of our service members and their families. However, we have reached a point where the demand for our help is much greater than what we can provide. Historically, NMCRS has been supported by two annual fundraising events: the Active Duty Fund Drive conducted by the Navy and Marine Corps under the auspices of the Secretary of the Navy and the Secretary of the Navy's direct mail solicitation to retired members of the Navy and Marine Corps. We are now in the process of increasing our public presence in order to reach out to the community in support of these service members and their families.

The Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association (HDSA) is a non-profit and non-political organization, governed by our members and an elected Board of Directors. This organization was founded in 1974, and serves the express purpose of supporting law enforcement. Contributed funding to the Department is approaching six million dollars, allowing the organization to positively impact the law enforcement community and the public. Volunteer labor from electricians, contractors, building trades, bankers, accountants, specialists and retired Sheriff’s Department Sworn personnel numbering thousands of hours, continues to be a significant factor in multiplying the value of hard dollar contributions. Funds and volunteer labor provided to benefit the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department includes the A-Range, including Duffystown, which is known as one of the finest law enforcement training facilities available. This facility has been largely built, maintained, and improved through the efforts of the HDSA. HDSA also regularly underwrites major equipment purchases and training classes for the Sheriff’s Department and personnel within the Department that cannot otherwise be funded through the budget or other sources. Finally, as part of its educational outreach, the HDSA owns and operates the Wm. B. Kolender Sheriff’s Museum in Old Town, San Diego, a 6800 square foot facility that displays the history of the Sheriff’s Department from 1850 to present through artifacts, photos, written history and more. In the 2013 alone, through May, the HDSA has allocated $130,000 for equipment purchases to benefit the Search and Rescue Division and Detentions. Additionally, the Board of Directors has provided a grant to the A Range & Duffystown of $75,000 for re-building and repair of existing buildings, in addition to a grant of $11,000 to add to an existing budget of $45,000 to finish the major electrical upgrade to the entire facility. Through separate fundraising, the HDSA has added $27,000 to the existing operating budget of the Sheriff’s Museum. In 2012, HDSA members built a state of the art Breaching Wall, which provides a live-fire venue for SWAT and other Deputies to practice forced entry procedures on doors and windows using special breaching tools and explosives. We have completely re-built a previously unusable 40-foot Rappel Tower, now a key component of the Obstacle Course. The Electrical Upgrade represents the completion of an 8-year project with approximately 2000 member donated hours and $160,000 in HDSA donations. This upgrade now supplies sufficient electrical power to the A-Range complex for current and future growth. Other equipment and services purchased in 2012 included Security Monitoring for A-Range and Duffystown, a Pressure Washer for use on ranges, buildings and vehicles, top soil for the K-9 area for use in planned dog run resurfacing, Brass Rollers for picking up spent brass and other necessary Armory equipment. HDSA also provided the funds necessary to send Sheriff’s Department law enforcement personnel to Anti-Terrorism training and to provide weapons of their choice to the top marksmen from the graduating classes of the Regional Training Academy. In 2012, through separate fundraising, the HDSA funded $170,000 to the WBK Sheriff’s Museum. $100,000 of those funds were used to pay down the mortgage on the building. The mortgage was also refinanced in 2012 in conjunction with this pay down, affording the Museum a low rate of interest, and a fully amortizing loan that will pay the mortgage off completely within the next 4.5 years. Thank you for visiting our Website. Consider joining our wonderful organization. Please also ‘like us’ on Facebook. You may also consider visiting the Sheriff’s Museum website (www.sheriffsmuseum.org) for a view of what the Museum has to offer. Sincerely, Marilee Howe, President, HDSA
