Archibald Gracie Mansion is the official residence of the Mayor of the City of New York. Built in 1799, it is located in Carl Schurz Park, at East End Avenue and 88th Street in the Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan. The mansion overlooks Hell Gate channel in the East River.HistoryBefore constructionGeorge Washington commandeered a different building on approximately the same site, during the American Revolutionary War, as it strategically overlooked Hell Gate. That building, called Belview Mansion, was the country residence of Jacob Walton, a New York merchant. The British destroyed this house during that war.Archibald Gracie then built another building, now known as Gracie Mansion, on the site in 1799, and used it as a country home until 1823, when he had to sell it to pay debts. In the fall of 1801, Gracie hosted a meeting there of New York Federalists, called by Alexander Hamilton, to raise $10,000 for starting the New York Evening Post newspaper, which eventually became the New York Post.Later historyOther people lived in the house until 1896, when the municipal government seized it and made its grounds part of Carl Schurz Park. It served various functions as part of that park (at various times it housed public restrooms, an ice cream stand, and classrooms) until 1924. From 1924 until 1936, it housed the Museum of the City of New York, and from 1936 until 1942, it was shown as a historical house.

DRINK FOR FREE ON YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!! (bring your friends, please.) "Biddy’s Pub is tiny—literally, it’s one room. A smattering of tables and a short bar make things tight, but Biddy’s itty-bittyness is sort of nice. Tucked away on East 91st, this pub is intimate and homey, attracting youngish neighborhood regulars. You won’t find a big crowd so there’s never much of a raucous party here, although a jukebox in the corner tends to spit out a lot of hip-hop. ..Biddy’s barkeeps pour some good Guinness. This pub doesn’t rely on Irish kitsch or cheesy specials to draw patrons. It’s just a mellow corner bar that makes Prince look like Andre the Giant." - Shecky's

The African-American Day Parade is a national parade that is held every 3rd Sunday in September each year. This year we are celebrating our 47th Annual African American Day Parade. The first annual African American Day Parade was held on September 15, 1969. The parade was started by two organizations, Afro-American Day and the United Federation of Black Community Oranizations. The founders of the parade are Livingston Wingate and Conrad S. Peter. The first Grand Marshal was Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. The parade extends a special arena for organizations, dignitaries, community leaders, celebrities and bands to showcase positive accomplishments for the motivation of African people to achieve higher goals. The parade is classified as a National parade with representatives, organizations and bands from 12 states. It has the widest cross-section of African-American organizations in America. Some of the past Grand Marshals included Denzel Washington, Muhammed Ali, Mayor David Dinkins, Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, Johnnie Cochran, Spike Lee, Queen Mother Moore, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Paul Winfield, Melba Moore, Imam IzaK-El M. Pasha, Congressman Charles Rangel, Al Sharpton, John Samuelson, Queen Latifah, Bill Cosby and many more. We look forward to your attendance to make this parade a most majestic event!!
