The Old New York County Courthouse at 52 Chambers Street in Manhattan, New York City, more commonly known as the Tweed Courthouse, was built in Italianate style with Romanesque Revival interiors, using funds provided by the corrupt William M. "Boss" Tweed, whose Tammany Hall political machine controlled the city and state governments at the time. The outer shell of the building was constructed from 1861–1872 by the architect John Kellum, with the political appointee Thomas Little. Construction was interrupted when the kickbacks and corruption involved in the construction of the building were disclosed to the public. The project was completed by architect Leopold Eidlitz who added the rear wing and interior renovations from 1877–1881, departing from Kellum's classicism with "an American version of organic architecture expressed through medieval forms".The building was designated a New York City landmark and added to the National Register of Historic Places, both in 1984, when it was called "one of the city's grandest and most important civic monuments". It was named a National Historic Landmark in 1986.

70 Pine Street – formerly known as the American International Building, 60 Wall Tower and originally as the Cities Service Building – is a 67-story, 952-foot office building located at the corner of Pearl Street and running to Cedar Street in the Financial District of Manhattan, New York City. It was built in 1931-32 by the Cities Service Company for the oil and gas baron Henry Latham Doherty, and was designed by the firms of Clinton & Russell and Holton & George in the Art Deco style. The building and its first floor interior were designated New York City Landmarks in June 2011. As of 2016, the building is a luxury rental residential property.HistoryThe Cities Service Building was constructed during the New York skyscraper race, which accounts for its gothic-like spire-topped appearance, a popular architectural style at that time. When completed it was the third tallest building in the world, after the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. It was the last skyscraper to be built in Lower Manhattan prior to World War II, and was the tallest building in Lower Manhattan until the 1970s when the World Trade Center was completed. Upon the 9/11 Attacks, it regained for some years the status of the tallest downtown building until the completion of the new 4 World Trade Center. It is now the third tallest building in Lower Manhattan. As of 2015, it is the eighth tallest in New York City, the 20th tallest in the United States, and the 103rd tallest building in the world.

In 1873, restauranteur Henry Meyer bought a 10 year old brick building located at 119 South Street and opened Meyer’s Hotel. He offered the finest accommodations in the area. At the heart of this establishment he constructed an elegant bar with polished woods and sparkling mirrors. He named it the Paris Café. Meyer’s catered to travelers, who arrived at the Seaport from distant lands, as well as the rich and famous of the era. Thomas Edison is said to have used the Paris Café as a second office while designing the world’s first centralized power stations on nearby Pearl Street. Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill Cody, as well as the famous outlaws Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were guests at the elegant establishment. Teddy Roosevelt was said to have dropped in on occasion while serving as the head of the New York City Police department. His purpose was to collar officers who indulged themselves while on duty. Ironically, less than a decade later, the 1930’s notorious crime figures Albert Anastasia and Louis Lepke of Murder, Inc. came to the Paris Café to convene under the dim lights and plot the elimination of their enemies. Today the South Street Seaport Area is the most vital cultural center in lower Manhattan. In July of 2000 the establishment was purchased by John Ronaghan and Peter O’Connell, who have slightly changed the name and brought the establishment back to its original grandeur. The Paris is now a landmark in the Federal Registry of Historic Buildings. At the Paris you can experience some of the history of New York City along with excellent food and fine spirits. It is still one of the most memorable stops for many of the millions of visitors who pass through the South Street Seaport each year.
