AAZK’s purpose is to foster a professional attitude in animal keepers by encouraging them to become active members of the professional teams at today’s zoo and aquariums. AAZK supports the promotion and implementation of zoo keeper education and strives to make the general public aware of our concern for all valid and deserving conservation projects and the need for the preservation of our natural resources and animal life.
In a continuing effort to help protect endangered animals, the Nashville Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK) will be sponsoring a unique event featuring artwork painted by Nashville Zoo’s animal residents. This will be a night of good food, drinks, live entertainment, and one-of0a-kind artwork. Stay tuned for the many changes to this year's event. Ask about sponsorship opportunities.
In 1991, Dr. Randy Steger, marketing professor at Lipscomb University, presented a proposal to his students to do a different type of project for the end of the semester. He suggested they seek to meet the mounting needs for medical supplies and equipment in the former Soviet Union and other Eastern European nations. This humanitarian work would utilize the energy and abilities of the students to make a significant difference in the lives of others and the class was ready for the challenge. They determined to secure three to four suitcases filled with medical supplies and equipment to send overseas with missionaries. They ended up being quite successful. Lipscomb finally had to ask them to leave campus because the donated supplies were taking over the auditorium! The day they packed up to leave campus they were able to fill two tractor trailers with all of the donated items. Through this urgent need for humanitarian relief the students organized the Healing Hands ministry, which was later incorporated as Healing Hands International in 1993. Since acquiring a 501c3 status in 1996, the Lord has truly blessed this work and HHI has been able to ship to more than 75 countries. The need has been established. The pipeline of resources has been tapped. What was once an idea has become a tool to provide aid to people suffering throughout the world. Most importantly, this ministry has proven to be an excellent way to give glory to God and bring recognition to the local church. For more information, visit http://www.hhi.org/about-us

Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc., monitors all media avenues watching for major natural disasters in the United States that have displaced victims from their homes. When we have confirmation of a natural disaster, we begin calling Church of Christ congregations in the area of the disaster, along with other local agencies to find out the extent of the damage. We ask the local Church of Christ congregation if they are willing to receive a truckload of prepackaged, ready to distribute supplies. If the local church is willing to go to work to help those in need, and to build relationships with the victims of the disaster, we send the supplies. Our long term goal is to bring the lost to Christ. In areas where a Church of Christ is not located, we contact congregations close to the disaster to see if they are willing as a church to work and distribute the supplies we offer in another community. Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort always stands prepared with a warehouse of supplies, packed, ready to load on a truck and have on the road within hours. We do not send or coordinate any volunteers to work, we only send supplies. Initially we send prepacked boxes of food, personal care boxes, infant care boxes, cleaning buckets, along with pallets of: bottled water, diapers, laundry detergent, bleach, new clothing and shoes, along with bundles of mops, rakes, shovels, and brooms. We turn over the supplies to the leadership of the local Church of Christ we are working with, for them to distribute. We simply are a source of supplies for the local congregation. Later on, when people are getting back into their homes or a place to live, we can purchase new beds, appliances, and other household furniture from vendors, and have it shipped directly from the manufacturer to the congregation working with victims. The Beds, appliances and furniture are for qualified victims that did not have insurance to cover the items lost, with a family income of $30,000 or less. We limit a family to one room of furniture, one appliance (possibly two), beds to sleep 4 people. We want to be good stewards of the Lords money we receive from those that support us. We ask local members to visit the victims homes, to verify that items are requested by only disaster victims, and their was a loss of items prior to requesting them from Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort.

We at Nashville Right to Life promote, uphold, and support reverence and respect for human life without regard to condition, quality, age, religion, race, creed, or color, whether born or unborn. This committment is derived from a belief that each human being, from the time of fertilization to natural death, has an immeasurable dignity and unalienable right to life. Elemental justice demands that this basic right be protected by law. We recognize that society today places great emphasis on the quality of life, but we must not let our concern for quality override our concern for life itself.

The Kurdish community of Nashville, Tennessee is a very successful one. It is a very hard-working, productive and responsible part of the society. It has numerous professionals, in the medical field, such as nurses, doctors, and pharmacists. Kurds own many small business, such bakeries, restaurants, car dealerships, construction and home renovations. Today, the youth makes up a very large portion of the Kurdish community; many are high school and university students and will embark on new opportunities and leadership roles within their community. Like any other group of people, the Kurdish community faces many challenges and issues such as lack of community integration, school drop-outs, drug abuse, and gangs. New arrivals have difficulties in resettling in a new environment, finding a job, enrolling children school, and filing applications for social security and other. Our vision is to promote a strong and healthy Kurdish community that is engaged and integrated in the mainstream American society.
