The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience is a history museum located in Seattle, Washington's Chinatown-International District. A Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the Wing is dedicated to engaging the public to explore issues related to the culture, art and history of Asian Pacific Americans. It is the only pan-Asian Pacific American community-based museum in America, highlighting the issues and life-experiences of one of the fastest-growing racial groups in the United States. In February 2013 it gained recognition as one of two dozen "affiliated areas" of the U.S. National Park Service.CollectionsThe Wing's collections have over 18,000 items, including artifacts, photographs, documents, books, and oral histories. Parts of the museum's collections are viewable through its online database. There is an oral history lab inside the museum for staff and public use.ExhibitsThe Wing houses temporary and permanent exhibitions related to Asian American history, art, and cultures. The museum represents over 26 ethnic groups.The museum uses a community-based exhibition model to create exhibits. As part of the community-based process, the museum conducts outreach into communities to find individuals and organizations to partner with. The Wing then forms a Community Advisory Committee (CAC) to determine the exhibit's direction. Staff at the museum conduct research, gathers materials, and records relevant oral histories under the guidance of the CAC. The CAC also determines the exhibit's overall design and content. The process may take place over a period of a year to 18 months.

Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) is a nationally-recognized legal services organization founded in 1984. Each year, NWIRP provides direct legal assistance in immigration matters to over 10,000 low-income people from over 150 countries, speaking over 60 different languages and dialects. NWIRP also strives to achieve systemic change to policies and practices affecting immigrants through impact litigation, public policy work, and community education. NWIRP serves the community from four offices in Washington State in Seattle, Granger, Tacoma, and Wenatchee.
Real Change was founded in 1994 to offer immediate employment options for the poor and homeless and challenge the structures that create poverty. Real Change serves our vendors through three integrated approaches: Vendor Program: Real Change meets vendors where they are. No ID is required, and vendors make the commitment that works for them. They begin selling the paper immediately after a 90-minute orientation that includes agreement to the code of conduct, brief sales training, and an invitation to involvement in various program activities. Additional opportunities include advanced sales trainings, elected vendor leadership positions, vendor internships, assistance with resource referral, access to the computer lab, and paid participation in the Homeless Speakers Bureau. Real Change Newspaper: Real Change is North America’s leading street newspaper that provides work for about 800 homeless and low-income people annually. Our weekly progressive community newspaper won sixteen first place awards for excellence in 2014 from the Washington Press Association and the Society of Professional Journalists, and focuses on issues of economic, social and racial justice. We ensure that Real Change is relevant to the concerns of our vendors through an editorial committee of homeless and formerly homeless people that meets weekly to discuss content. Real Change Advocacy: Real Change leverages relationships between vendors and readers to increase opportunities for homeless and low-income people. In 2014, Real Change launched the OutsideIN campaign to pressure policymakers to reduce the numbers of unsheltered people in King County. This campaign, which included numerous public events to support a petition campaign aimed at key policymakers, helped create the community pressure that resulted in a $1.2M budget add by City Council for new shelter and the formation of Mayor Ed Murray’s Emergency Task Force on Unsheltered Homelessness. The Center for Community Change recently highlighted this campaign in their national organizers blog.
Founded by a group of Seattle theater janitors, SEIU Local 6 became one of the original locals of the Service Employees International Union in 1921. Today SEIU Local 6 represents more than 4,000 janitors, security officers, and allied industries workers in Washington state. SEIU Local 6 members are janitors who clean office buildings in King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Spokane counties and security officers in downtown Seattle, Bellevue, and greater King County suburbs. SEIU Local 6 also represents retail workers, stadium workers, and barbers in other private sectors within our region. SEIU Local 6 is part of the largest union in the country, Service Employees International Union, which represents over 2 million service workers in North America. SEIU is proud to have the most diverse membership and leadership in the Labor Movement. More than 40% of our members are immigrants and close to 50% are women.
Founded in 2006, Latino Community Fund of Washington State (LCF) is the leading philanthropic organization for Latinos in Washington. LCF's mission is to improve the well-being of Latinos in Washington, especially those most in need, by supporting local organizations that improve the health, education, community and economic development of the Latino community. LCF has partnered with dozens of nonprofit organizations throughout Washington and provided over $50,000 in grants to Latino-serving or Latino-led organizations throughout the state. Most of the funds come from our own community. We are building local philanthropy and teaching community development at the grass-roots level.
Lewis Park is located at the entrance to Beacon Hill, just south of the Jose Rizal Bridge and below the PacMed building. Lewis Park flanks the eastern hillside at the north tip of Beacon Hill. According to the Sherwood park history files, Lewis Park was a gift of W.H. Lewis in 1911. Long abandoned, Lewis Park had become overgrown by invasive species and garbage. Volunteers from the neighborhood and other community groups began to clear invasive species and debris, improve the landscape, and plant native species. Friends of Lewis Park (FoLP) is an all-volunteer group of North Beacon Hill neighbors whose mission is to steward the Lewis Park Natural Area. We work with the community and Seattle Parks and Recreation as part of the Green Seattle Partnership to restore and maintain Lewis Park as part of Seattle’s Urban Forest. We are community members who are helping restore Lewis Park to a more natural landscape that includes: -Safer, more beautiful, habitat for native plants and animals -Enjoyable place to walk and learn about native plants -As the entrance to our community, helps to instill a sense of pride in our neighborhood Join us for work parties at the Lewis Park Natural Area.
