Council for Unity has taken a leadership role in helping communities create broader safety nets for our children. All the programs and activities of the Council for Unity confront the following very complex and challenging issues: Violence When a community is faced with violence, Council for Unity provides its anti-gang, violence reduction models to schools and community centers. The child's need for family, safety, self-esteem and responsibility are met through the application of our customized curriculum, obviating the tendency to join anti-social peer groups. By empowering alienated youth to address the problems that plague them, by teaching them values and democratic approaches to solving problems, their sense of impotency dissipates. They become part of the solution to the problems that beset them and, in turn, become productive citizens. Racial Tensions When a community is confronted with racial or ethnic tension, Council for Unity applies its unity model to bring conflicting groups together. Agendas are established that focus on attacking problems rather than individuals. Participants are then directed to seek a common good that benefits all parties. In addition, the Council's “building bridges strategy” reaches out to recently arrived immigrant youth, helping them to feel safe and accepted in their new communities. Isolation Many youth feel helpless, alone and alienated. Council for Unity provides a support system for life that gives much needed predictability to youngsters who feel lost. By providing social, cultural and educational opportunities, by including parents, educators and mentors as care givers, these children become confident and reconnected to society.
The Corona Lion's Club was established on 4/21/1942 and is coming upon our 70th year serving the residents of Corona,Queens and it's surrounding communities. Our Future Goals are expansion of this prestigious club. We would like to have more inclusion from the representation of the community populations to further our cause in helping within our own community. Surrounding communities ( Towns ) with the lack of such a community involved civic organization are also potential areas to further advance the need of our Lion's Vision. The Northeastern Conference Adventist Community Services Center is a religious, non-profit organization which serves as the humanitarian arm of the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. The Center, was established in 1968 as a welfare office that provided relief to those in need of emergency assistance (food, clothing, furniture and housing, etc.) After closing for a short period of reconstruction, on June 17, 2013 the Northeastern Conference reopened the doors of the center and the people of the community and its environs are elated. Our mission is to serve the less fortunate and hurting, using Christ's Method. Our vision is to broaden our scope to community services, build collaborative partnership and create healthier families and communities. Our partnerships are: Food Bank for New York City, MRS Baking Distributors, New York Cares, Queens Center for Progresss, Renacer Hispanic SDA Church and Trader Joe's Store. Our services are: Food pantry, clothing distribution, Disaster Response, Health Services, and Community Development. Food Pantry: provides food to the unemployed, low income earners, undocumented and disadvantaged (Tuesdays). Clothing Distribution: provides new and gently used clothing and winter gear. We also provide career clothing for individuals entering or re-entering the workforce. Disaster Response: provides relief supplies to our clients affected by natural disasters and unforeseen tragedies, including counseling and/or referrals. Health Services: provides our clients with free health screenings (blood pressure & cholesterol screenings, waist circumference, BMI and body fat testing, etc.); health workshops and nutritional counseling. Community Development: provides opportunities and equip our community members with the necessary skills to become contributors to society.

In 1950, the legendary Punjab Gharana exponent, Acharya Ji Lachman Singh Seen of Jalandhar, India, founded Sangeet Vilas. From its inception, Sangeet Vilas has earned the reputation of one of the world's leading classical music schools, paving the way for nothing short of excellence, and aspiring for the continuation of traditional Indian culture. Sangeet Vilas is dedicated to the preservation, sustenance and brilliance of Indian classical music. In 1984, Sangeet Vilas graced the United States by the renowned Guru Ji Kinaar Kumar Seen who established a School in New York. With humble beginnings, Guru Ji Kinaar went from fifty students to hundreds of students from all over the world. The students at Sangeet Vilas are a melting pot of various cultures, all-endeavoring to learn the language of Indian music. ИНФОРМАЦИЯ О ФОНДЕ «КОКАНД» и проделанной работе в 2006-2015 гг. Фонд создан в ноябре 2006 года по инициативе молодёжи – выходцев из Коканда. За время существования фонда (более 8 лет) проделана большая работа по благоустройству территории. Что было проделано за этот короткий период? 1. Произведено устройство бетонных площадок и дорожек – более 10 200 кв. м. 2. Отреставрированы 344 памятников. 3. При содействии фонда силами родных и близких заново возведены 69 памятников из мрамора и гранита. 4. Произведён капитальный ремонт Хонако (шипона), жилого дома, в котором живёт сторож. 5. По озеленению территории – посажены 400 елей, которые на сегодня разрослись, и при входе на кладбище кажется, как-будто заходишь в парк. 6. Разбито 4 цветника, где растут розы разного вида. 7. Построен заново забор по всему периметру кладбища общей длиной 680 м и высотой 3 м. Забор оштукатурен и сделан парапет из красной черепицы, а по фасаду покрашен и облицован. 8. На правой стороне кладбища завершены земляные работы, завезено 200 автомашин грунта для устройства ровной площадки и восстановлены 24 памятника евреям, эвакуированным во время войны, выполнены дорожки и площадки к ним. 9. Вдоль виноградника установлены 6 парковых скамеек для посетителей. 10. Посажено более 300 кустов роз. 11. Построена благоустроенная туалетная. 12. Разработан новый генеральный план кладбища с указанием всех строений и памятников. 13. Все памятники пронумерованы и зарегистрированы в журнале с указанием фамилии и имени похороненного, даты рождения и смерти. Журнал хранится у охранника кладбища. 14. Возведён мемориальный памятник участникам Великой Отечественной войны. 15. Построена одна удобная беседка и установлен 1 деревянный топчан. 16. По периметру кладбища вдоль забора уложены трубы для водопровода. 17. Выполнена реконструкция кровли жилого дома, Хонако (шипона) и навеса над воротами. Шиферная кровля заменена на черепицу. 18. Возведён новый памятник Льву Хаимовичу Фейгину. 19. Работа по загрузке веб-сайта продолжается. Уже сегодня можно в Интернете (www.kokand.cph.uz) посмотреть памятники, зажечь поминальную свечу, а также можно найти список кокандцев, внёсших лепту на благоустройство кладбища за период 2006-апрель 2014 года. 20. За период ноябрь 2006 года по март 2015 года в фонд поступило средств в сумме 230 736 долларов, израсходовано 227 505 долларов, в том числе на благоустройство кладбища – 170 917 долларов, на организационные нужды фонда – 56588 долларов. 21. Установлены новые металлические ворота с калиткой, а также возведены кирпичные столбы и арка, которые облицованы красным гранитом. 22. Задолженность фонда Якову Сулейманову на 1 июня 2015 года – 3100 долларов. Остаток средств в банке – 3231 доллар. П Л А Н работ по благоустройству кладбища в г. Коканде на 2014-2015 годы 1. Произвести покраску раннее выполненного бетонного забора с внутренней и внешней стороны кладбища полимерной краской. Длина забора – 680 м. Ориентировочная стоимость работ - $8 000. 2. Ежемесячное содержание сторожа ($60), двух уборщиков ($100), специалиста по технадзору ($36), садовника ($50), оплата за веб-сайт ($50) – всего за месяц – 296 долларов. За 2 года - $7 000. 3. Продолжить выполнение бронзовой краской надписей на отдельных памятниках. Ориентировочная стоимость работ - $4 500. 4. Выполнить дорожки, площадки и бордюры из цветных плиток. These programs include: school- and center-based, after-school programs for children Ages 5-12; gender specific youth leadership development; organizing and youth development activities targeting LGBTQ young people; a Beacon comprehensive youth and community development program; a teen center; youth employment, workforce readiness and employment counseling; attendance improvement and drop-out prevention programs in collaboration with local high schools; 2 Department of Education-funded transfer schools for older, out-of-school youth; a Young Adult Borough Center; college and career counseling services; a program run in conjunction with local community colleges providing individualized supports for older youth to access and succeed in obtaining an Associate’s degree; ESOL and adult literacy; comprehensive housing services including neighborhood preservation, homelessness prevention, eviction prevention, and re-housing assistance; support services for family day care centers; 5 senior centers, one of which is dedicated to serving older gay and lesbian adults; transportation services for the elderly; a NORC; an Adult Day Services program for the frail elderly and those with severe memory loss; caregiver support services; case management and delivered meals service for the homebound elderly; and a Community Care Transitions program, which works with recently discharged older adult patients to avoid unnecessary hospital re-admissions.
