Portland State has a significant new commitment to student engagement and retention with the opening of a new student recreation center in January, 2010. Home to Campus Recreation, the new Center is located in the heart of campus in the Urban Plaza and provide students and the campus community significantly expanded opportunities for exercise and campus engagement. Funded by student-fees, the Center falls under the auspices of Student Affairs and is being intentionally programmed to link recreation to student learning.

Our mission is to promote learning and discovery and to advance research and scholarship by providing effective instruction, diverse information resources, and high quality user-centered services for an engaged Portland State community. We collaborate with the University in its mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic qualities of urban life.

Lincoln Hall is a historical building located in Portland, Oregon, that is the home of the theatre, film, and performing arts departments at Portland State University. It was originally home to Lincoln High School before becoming a part of the Portland State College in 1955.HistoryDesigned by Morris H. Whitehouse of Whitehouse and Fouilhoux Architecture, it was constructed as the second home of Lincoln High School in 1912. The 45-room schoolhouse was constructed on a former cow pasture belonging to Jacob Kamm, who was involved in steamboat shipping on the Columbia River. In 1937, during its use as Lincoln High School, the building served 1580 students. After the 1948 flood of Vanport City, Oregon, the Oregon State Board of Higher Education purchased the building from the Portland Public School District in 1952 for $875,000 as a new home for the Vanport Extension Center. The purchase followed the passing of House Bill 213, signed by Paul Patterson on April 15, 1949.

Welcome to the Multicultural Student Center at Portland State University. The Multicultural Student Center (MCC) provides a forum for collaborative cultural, educational, and social experiences at PSU and beyond. Be a part of this experience. The MCC is one of three centers that make up the Cultural Resource Centers unit at PSU. The other centers are La Casa Latina Student and the Native American Student and Community Center. The MCC started as an idea that a group of PSU students proposed in 1991. The MCC has existed in various forms since 1992, and the recent move to SMSU 228 marks a new start for the Center in its tenth year. The vision of the MCC is to bring together students, faculty, staff, and the community to promote respect, understanding, equality, social justice, and interdependence among people from diverse backgrounds. The mission of the Cultural Resource Centers is to create a student-centered inclusive environment that enriches the university experience. We honor diversity, explore social justice issues, celebrate cultural traditions, and foster student identities, success and leadership. Our purpose is threefold: To provide a place in a central location on campus wherein all students, faculty, and staff might meet, exchange ideas, design and carry out plans for community and campus activities which foster understanding of the diverse social and cultural elements our city, state, nation, and world. To provide programming space and assistance, Student groups are especially encouraged to utilize the facility as often as they need to, making maximum use of the services described above, urging others to come in and share their mixed-use ideas or to acquire help with socio-cultural event planning from an eager staff. Our doors are also open to academic units and other departments. The MCC also seeks to help increase recruitment and retention of underrepresented students, staff, and faculty. Our faculty represent a blend of professional achievement and academic excellence in performance, design and production, writing and criticism, and guest artists are a regular part of our program. The WRC hosts and co-sponsors a number of events throughout the year, including Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Take Back the Night. We also bring speakers and performers to campus, sponsor discussion groups, and promote awareness campaigns related to a variety of women's issues. The Center also has a library of books, magazines and movies; a family corner for children to play in; a community bulletin board, and a lounge area. The WRC is home to three programs that are integral to many students' success, well-being and community involvement: the Empowerment Program, the Interpersonal Violence Program, and our Leadership in Action Program.

Some barriers might include but are not limited to the following: physical or mental disabilities, an injury, language, sexual orientation or religious beliefs. We offer programming specifically for women and the queer community. We reach out to a variety of resource centers such as the Disability Resource Center, Women's Resource Center, Queer Resource Center and the Veteran's Resource Center as well as the Center for Students with Children. We want to remove actual and perceived barriers to recreation.

Portland State's Confucius Institute is to promote educational exchange and cooperation between the US and the PRC,and jointly develops academic exchange programs with its partner school Soochow University.CI-PSU is a non-degree granting entity that supports community outreach and development of non-degree China area studies and language programs.

PSU Recycles is Portland State University’s comprehensive recycling program. Servicing over 35 buildings on campus, PSU Recycles provides campus staff, faculty, students and administrators with regular recycling of paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum, and more. In addition to facilitating campus-wide recycling, PSU Recycles also sponsors several innovative recycling programs, including PSU ReUses, PSU Composts, RecycleMania, and Chuck it for Charity.

TREC grew out of the Oregon Transportation Research and Education Consortium, or OTREC, a university transportation center created by Congress that grew to incorporate programs across Portland State University's campus. TREC now incorporates the National Institute for Transportation and Communities, the Initiative for Bicycle and Pedestrian Innovation and Portal, a multimodal transportation data archive.
