The Diversifying Individuals Via Education (D.I.V.E) Rhode Island Conference seeks to promote intercultural competence and inclusion on college campuses through workshops and discussions. The conference seeks to educate student leaders on the importance of racial and ethnic identity and to empower students by exposing them to diverse perspectives. We hope to develop plans of action that enhance their leadership capabilities on their campus with a basis of cross-cultural competency. By initiating conversations amongst student leaders, we hope to create and sustain connections between students from local colleges to promote cooperation and collaboration. We aspire to further identify issues of institutional inequity and advocate for social change on different college campuses.
The URI Multicultural Student Services Center (MSSC) is a place dedicated to developing a supportive and inclusive campus culture across the boundaries of culture, identity, and discipline. Celebrating unity in diversity, the MSSC invites all of it's students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and other friends to join in its work in creating a community of learners within and beyond URI.
Peer-to-Peer Learning Portal: We believe that experience is the best teacher, so why not learn from the experiences of fellow students? By providing students with a platform to share knowledge outside of the classroom, we bring the concept of “Social Learning” to each and every university student. Our site is a gateway for students to exchange study materials with each other, connect and enhance their university life. Its Quality, Not Quantity: In order to make sure that the notes and study guides on our site are useful and helpful for other students, we use a peer rating system for our documents. As well, offensive documents, copyrighted works, unrelated documents are flagged by our members and taken down immediately upon discovery. Learn Anywhere, Anytime: We believe that learning shouldn’t stop when class is over, it should go beyond classroom walls. Our goal is to make our resources available to students wherever they go. We are building our entire learning platform on the foundation of making everything accessible at anytime. With the rapid trend in mobile technology, OneClass.com intends to take advantage of that by providing study materials through laptops, iPads and even your cellphone. Academic Integrity: OneClass.com believes in maintaining its products and services to the highest standard of academic integrity. We pride ourselves in being able to help students achieve higher education, thus we strive to achieve compliance at all universities that our members belong to. Furthermore, we have enlisted the help of professors as site advisors and we constantly encourage other academic staff to join our site in helping to ensure academic integrity.
There is one Resident Advisor (RA) for every 25 students in this building, in addition to one Resident Academic Mentor (RAMs) assigned to the Living and Learning Community.
The discipline of Women's Studies has a vision of a world free from sexism. By necessity, freedom from sexism must include a commitment to freedom from national chauvinism; class, ethnic, racial, and heterosexual bias; economic exploitation; religious persecution; ageism; and ableism. Women's studies seeks to identify, understand, and challenge ideologies and institutions that knowingly or unknowingly oppress and exploit others, or deny fundamental human rights. Thus, women's studies envision a world in which all persons can develop their fullest potential. Women's studies use feminist and interdisciplinary methods to teach, conduct research, and expand existing bodies of knowledge. Critical thinking, the production of theory, and the assumption of community and global responsibility are integral to these methods. We are committed to deliberative processes that promote open expression and collaboration. Understanding the interrelationship between the personal and political, we support and promote feminist teaching, learning, research, scholarship, creative activity, and professional and community service.
The URI CSP program readies students for entry-level positions in college and university settings and for careers as advisors, coordinators, and directors/deans at institutions of higher education. The program is designed in accordance with the guidelines established by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS). The program offers both full and part-time options for students on the university's Kingston campus. The program can be completed in two years with full-time study and from three to five years for those who attend part-time. Approximately 10-15 students are accepted to the program each academic year, which begins with the fall semester. The priority deadline for fall semester admission is January 15, however, applications are accepted until April 1. To ensure your application is complete by the priority deadline, we recommend submitting your on-line application by no later than January 1. This gives references two weeks to complete their recommendations. Applications completed between January 16-April 1 are reviewed on a space-available basis.
