The Alumni Association has been organized since 1920-21 when Henry J. Miles was chosen to be the President. A very capable president, A. Karl Larson, followed the next two years. The two were elected while in their graduating years at Dixie. The tradition has continued today. Hal Hiatt currently serves as the Alumni President with over 40,000 members spread throughout the United States and abroad.
Vision Statement: Our vision is to integrate sustainability throughout all operations and to tread lightly on the planet by minimizing the natural resources we consume during our normal operations and to continuously reduce the amount of waste we generate. DSU will invest in employee development to encourage all employees to spread this vision into their homes, neighborhoods, and the community. Definition: Make DSU a sustainability leader for the community via employee and student social responsibility to meet the needs and aspirations of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Goals: Short Term: • Faculty and staff involvement as advisors and leaders for students and for other faculty and staff. • Locate and provide important literature and publications to students, faculty and staff. • Encourage the practice of sustainability by establishing good practices to set an example for the community. • Give each incoming new student a metal DSU water bottle to encourage use vs. continually purchasing plastic water bottles. • Establish the DSU Recycling logo and signage. • Establish an official campus wide sustainability commitment. • Coordinate recycling efforts with students, faculty and staff. • Increase awareness of the DSU Sustainability Initiative. Long term goals: • Develop a Sustainability Office. • Hire a dedicated sustainability coordinator. • Reduce campus carbon emissions. • Reduce campus environmental pollutants. • Collaborate with community members and encourage sustainability and recycling community wide. • Encourage planting of native plants, including more trees, rather than water-intensive plants. • Utilize the DSU mulching machine to reuse small tree trimmings for mulch around existing plants for water retention. • Provide additional shuttle services from off-campus housing to campus and to a major store for shopping purposes to reduce carbon emissions. Ways to achieve our Mission and Goals: • Ramp up the recycling program currently in place by putting up informational signs that direct people to the proper receptacle for their waste/recycling. • Acquire additional receptacles for waste/recycling to position in as many places as possible. • Continue to spread the word about the need for recycling via appropriate posters, handouts, and possibly by holding meetings or workshops. • Join AASHE – (The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) in the future. • Research methods to innovate and effectively dedicate time and resources into growing this program effectively and efficiently. • Initiate programs such as “Turn your key, be idle free” (idea from USU) to ask all drivers to turn off their engines while not moving.

This page was created to show community support from alumni members throughout the St. George community. In prior years there have been a few who seek to diminish the "Dixie" name. This page was established to build comradery in keeping and sustaining the name Dixie in the higher education institution, Dixie State University.
The Undergraduate Research (UR) Committee at Dixie State promotes, coordinates, and celebrates undergraduate student research achievements across our campus. To draw attention to outstanding student accomplishments, the committee hosts an annual Student Research Day. The committee also assists with and recommends student proposals for inclusion in the annual Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research. All undergraduate students, of course, constantly conduct research, using library holdings, laboratory experiments, clinical studies, and interviews with experts to complete the projects their professors assign them each semester. The Undergraduate Research Committee, however, encourages students to conduct involved research on single topics over extended periods of time and then present their findings in formal settings, such as conferences. Typically, the students pursuing these projects work closely with faculty mentors who not only provide their scholarly expertise but also practical advice on preparing and delivering conference presentations. When a student pursues a demanding research project and presents his or her findings to an audience, this student will typically develop an expert’s knowledge about the topic he or she has examined. In addition, the student will learn and adopt a set of skills that can help her or him successfully pursue and investigate other academic challenges as undergraduates now and perhaps as graduate students later. Working on research projects enables students to network with others who share their interests, too, prompting them to establish relationships that may lead to new academic and professional opportunities, including internships, grants funding, publications, and even employment.
Dixie State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee also known as SAAC, is a committee made up of student athletes assembled to provide insight on their experience as athletes. Some functions of SAAC are to promote communication between athletics administration and student-athletes, disseminate information, provide feedback and insight into athletic department issues, generate a student-athlete voice within the athletics program involving all athletic teams, solicit student-athlete responses to proposed conference and NCAA legislation, organize community service efforts, create a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus-wide committees, and finally promote a positive student-athlete image on campus.
Red Rock Canyon School is a state-licensed residential treatment facility for adolescents, ages twelve to eighteen, with behavioral and/or emotional problems who require a level of structure and treatment beyond that which is available in traditional outpatient clinics. We offer 24 hour nursing and behavioral management staffing to ensure that our clients have access to professional staffing throughout their stay. We have a licensed psychiatrist, a licensed pediatrician, a clinical psychologist, licensed therapists with masters and doctorates in their respective fields. - Our nursing staff has several registered nurses available 24 hours a day Paramedics, EMTs, and CNAs available to attend to medical concerns and carry out doctor's orders. In this positive environment, our youth are provided with opportunities to look beyond themselves as they act as positive role models for newer program residents and participate in community service projects. Participation in our enrichment, recreational and vocational training programs further complement their preparation for life challenges and their overall sense of happiness and well-being. We provide opportunities for troubled youth to gain a greater understanding about themselves and knowledge about the world around them. Dear Yogi, We would like to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude and say thank you for showing up and being an important part of our community. Just 100 years ago the only people that were privileged to do yoga were monks and royalty, so it is with great excitement that we now have the opportunity to practice yoga together. One of our main goals here at BE HOT is to make yoga (kettlebells and Pilates) accessible to all. With that in mind, we offer a whole array of classes from beginner to advanced. Depending on the class you choose and the ideal temperature setting for each, you can BE COOL, BE WARM, and yes, you can BE HOT! Yoga is a combination of body, mind, and spirit. Individuals practice yoga for different reasons such as: flexibility, endurance, strength, weight-loss, centeredness, meditation, or even rehabilitation. In the spirit of honoring the unique reasons why people choose to practice yoga, we ask that you honor a few guidelines in our studio: Leave the world behind during class; we offer lockers for personal belongings. Enter the yoga room with only your mat, towel, water, and your intention for class. Please quietly close the studio door behind you upon entering or exiting to maintain reverence and the room’s temperature. Our yoga, kettlebell, and Pilates teachers dedicate hundreds of hours studying bones, ligaments, muscles, and even the human mind and heart. Their extensive training not only helps to align postures on the mat, but helps align lives off the mat. It’s common to pay over $100 per month for a yoga studio membership. We feel the value offered at BE Hot, with unlimited classes for only $29 per month, is exceptional! Remember, our goal is to make yoga accessible to all. The challenge of a low monthly cost for members, is the inability to pay our yoga teachers what they truly deserve. As a possible solution to this problem, you have an opportunity to tip your instructor. Tips may be offered during the check-in process via your credit card, or deposited directly into the tip jars created for each instructor. Notes of appreciation are also gladly accepted. Please understand monetary tipping is not mandatory, it is simply a way to show your instructor gratitude. We tip many people throughout our day, (server, hair dresser, taxi driver) and food for thought, when was the last time one of them changed your life? Yogis have been practicing yoga for more than 5,000 years. Many of the original words are written in Sanskrit. During class our yoga teachers will at times use some of these words and will always define them in English. At the end of every yoga practice, the last thing our yoga teacher says is “namaste.” In Sanskrit “namaste” means the divine light in me honors and respects the divine light in you.
