The American Musical and Dramatic Academy is a college conservatory for the performing arts located in New York City and Los Angeles, California.The Conservatory offers both Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees and two-year Certificates in Professional Performance. Programs are offered in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance and Performing Arts.AMDA is an accredited institution of the National Association of Schools of Theatre.HistoryAMDA was founded in 1964 by Philip Burton along with other prominent people from the New York theatre community to provide practical training by professional performers, for performers. Burton was an acting teacher and is best known as having trained and launched the career of his adopted son, Richard Burton. Emerging from the vibrant arts scene of 1960s Manhattan, the school established itself as a part of the New York performing arts community and garnered early support from members of the Broadway theatre elite such as Sammy Davis Jr., Dina Merrill and Carol Channing.By 1970, the school had outgrown its original location on East 23rd Street and moved into a new building on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village. A few years later, further growth prompted another move, this time to the historic Ansonia Building on the Upper West Side. Continued success in the '90s led to the opening of a second building near Lincoln Center, which is now the principal location of AMDA New York.In 2003 the school expanded west by opening AMDA Los Angeles in the historic Vine Tower Building, one block north of the legendary intersection of Hollywood and Vine in the heart of the Hollywood Entertainment District.AMDA's programs are designed to prepare students to work professionally as an actor in theatre, musical theatre, dance, film and television, and stage combat. Programs are taught in small classes of 35 or fewer students, offering the opportunity for greater personal attention and intellectual exchange. GBA is an AACSB-accredited business school, one of 681 such institutions worldwide. Located on the newly expanded campus of John Jay College 59th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues in the heart of midtown Manhattan, the Arts Center at John Jay is dedicated to presenting compelling exhibitions, lectures, and performances. The Galleries and performance and events space host multiple shows and events each year, addressing themes of social justice and cultural diversity through aesthetic and intellectual innovation and exchange. The Arts Center presents works by world renowned and emerging artists in a variety of media. Programs foster interdisciplinary discourse within the College and the New York community through public programming, links to coursework, and by providing access to its programs to area schools and to the broader public. The goal of the Arts Center at John Jay is to provide a forum for artistic and intellectual exchange and expression, representing a wide range of ideas and promoting critical thinking and broad participation, reflective of today's globalized world. The music and visual arts programs of The Arts Center are administered under the supervision of the Art and Music Department of John Jay College, a 501c.3 non-profit organization. Support for programming is provided by John Jay College and the City University of New York, and from outside sources in the form of grants, awards and donations. The President of John Jay College as well as the Chair of the Art and Music Department serve on board along with other full-time faculty members and prestigious advisors from the community at large. Exhibitions are curated under the supervision of John Jay College full time faculty.

Earn a certificate in Labor Studies, while interning at a New York City union or labor-affiliated organization. Graduate and undergraduate programs available. Take 4 classes with the renowned Murphy Institute Labor Studies faculty. Work 4 days a week at an internship with a union or labor-affiliated organization. Analyze your intern experience in the context of an academic experience and a labor and social movement. Earn a $3,570 stipend, unlimited monthly Metro card, and $1,900 scholarship towards tuition.
