The Monsanto Family YMCA on Page Boulevard, and its predecessors – the Pine Street, Page Park and City North branches – share a remarkable history. Over the course of a century in North St. Louis, the YMCA has educated and inspired young leaders, housed and fed U.S. Army troops, started Camp Rivercliff, established a public affairs forum and created the Page-Park Junior Kindergarten School, which was a prototype for the national Head Start program. Since the current facility opened in 1981 and was renamed to recognize a generous contribution by the Monsanto Company, the Monsanto Family YMCA has become a national model for what not-for-profit organizations can do to address family needs in the inner city. By providing a safe haven for youth, an excellent preschool child care program and a means for uniting neighbors and neighborhoods, the YMCA is a large part of community life in North St. Louis. In 1998, the YMCA Performing Arts Center on Clay Street, which opened in 1996, became part of the Monsanto Family YMCA branch. In 2000, a 10,000 square foot addition was added to the Monsanto Family YMCA, which included a family interactive center, technology training center and strength training area.

Missouri Women's Chorus

In the autumn of 2010, several women who had sung together in other groups gathered to establish the Missouri Women's Chorus and had the very good fortune to engage Scott Schoonover as Artistic Director. Auditions were held in January, 2011 to form the first group of 24 singers in the Chorus and work began immediately on our first concert. The first of two a capella concerts held during 2011 occurred on May 1, performed at Union Avenue Christian Church, St. Louis, Missouri. Titled Amore, Sacred and Profane, this concert explored the theme of love in both sacred and secular contexts and featured early Spanish works, 16-century madrigals, Brahms part-songs and contemporary motets. The second concert of 2011 was held on December 3 at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. Titled Mystic Nativity, this was a Christmas concert comprised of works devoted to the figure of the Virgin Mary, and the performance was enthusiastically received by a standing-room-only audience. Our first concert of 2012 was held on May 6 at The Chapel for the Arts in Clayton, Missouri. Two back-to-back performances allowed us to accommodate our audience at this small venue. In a more relaxed setting, where listeners could enjoy a glass of wine or other beverage, we sang of Fair Phyllis and Other Naughty Shepherdesses: A Renaissance Cabaret. We were fortunate to be accompanied by local artists Tracy Andreotti on cello, Mary McKenney on recorder and Jeff Noonan on lute.

Core Values: Respect for All Uncompromising respect for human dignity is the foundation upon which Neighborhood Houses was built. We fundamentally value people and are always mindful of individual circumstances and points of view. We are committed to fostering communities of inclusiveness, equality and fairness – – ones that empower families and inspire children to aspire to greatness. Faith & Stewardship Our faith-based legacy implores us to be vigilant in assessing and responding to community needs and, in the spirit of exemplary stewardship of our mission, we work relentlessly to provide quality resources to those who are experiencing social injustice. Resilience & Empowerment We believe that resilience is a critical element of personal character that can be built in all of us, despite socio-economic conditions. Individuals should always be viewed as optimal agents of their own personal growth, but in no way does this mean that the road toward resilience should be traveled alone. Quality Programs & Caring Staff By providing effective educational services, youth programs and a caring, dedicated staff, Neighborhood Houses is supporting the growth of children into productive, engaged adults, and we are helping parents become confident advocates for their own families. Yet, in humble recognition of our own limitations, we are constantly building and cultivating partnerships to enhance our skills and broaden our perspectives. This belief of communalism will forever be engrained Neighborhood Houses and in all that we do.

Grace and Peace Winter Shelter
Distance: 0.8 mi Competitive Analysis

St. Louis, MO 63112

Offering Shelter, in Jesus' Name since 1986! The Grace and Peace Winter Shelter has been offering temporary, overnight shelter during the colder months to homeless women of St. Louis since 1986. We are planning, Lord willing, to reopen for this winter on November 12, 2014. If we don't open that date, we will open a bit later. We are working hard to get all the volunteers signed up to operate the Shelter! The Winter Shelter operates in the basement of Grace and Peace's building in an urban area on the west side of the city. By the grace of God, many suburban churches send helping hands and meals each winter. Neighboring churches and agencies also partner with us! As a result, the shelter ministry extends well beyond the boundaries of the congregation of Grace and Peace. Many women have come back year after year to stay at Grace and Peace during the winter, citing the warm community there that they like to call home. Many have also "graduated" to apartments of their own. The Winter Shelter receives no government funding, relying instead on volunteer helpers and meal providers as well as on donations to cover staff stipends and other expenses. You can send a check via U. S. Mail or using your bank's Bill Pay function. The address is on our website. You can now make a donation via PayPal. To do so, go to www.paypal.com, and select the Send Money and Personal tabs. Under the Personal tab, choose Gift. Designate the receiver as [email protected]. The Shelter is a ministry of Grace & Peace Fellowship, which is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation. This means that donations are tax-deductible for donors, according to current IRS policies. If you would like a donation receipt, please send us an email with your information and we will send you a receipt at year's end. Thank you for your support!
