The Catholic Charities New York is a federation of 90 agencies throughout the 10 counties of the Archdiocese of New York, which delivers, coordinates and advocates for quality human services and programs touching almost every human need. We are deeply committed to healing the physical and emotional wounds these animals have suffered. We firmly believe that there is a great home out there for every puppy and dog. We are a group of volunteers with a desire to help save all animals. We believe with the proper love and care any dog or puppy can grow into their potential of being a beloved family pet. We adopt pets in the following states: Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia.
Spence-Chapin was founded over 100 years ago as a non-profit adoption organization and in the past century of service we've grown with the needs of our community. Today we continue our non-profit legacy of international and domestic adoption programs with a focus on finding adoptive families for the children most in need of adoption- children with special needs, siblings, and older children. A team of social workers are dedicated to providing non-judgmental, unbiased, free options counseling for NYC area women and their partners who are unsure about parenting. Our Modern Family Center at Spence-Chapin is committed to building and strengthening today’s modern families. Our staff offers culturally sensitive, adoption-competent, bi-lingual, and LGBTQ-affirming care. We offer mental health counseling, workshops for kids and teens, social events, community education, and much more. We encourage you to get to know us and learn about the many ways we're working with families across the country and helping children around the world. Founded in 1988, as an independent not-for-profit organization, EWMI’s work began the year before the wall came down, with the challenge of crafting functioning democratic systems in transitioning post-soviet societies. We learned – in our initial work across central and eastern europe, and in the decades that followed around the world - that a collaborative approach involving civil society, government and the private sector is the key to ensuring that citizens exercise their rights, and institutions are accountable for protecting them. This leads to more just and prosperous societies. EWMI specializes in targeted, locally relevant initiatives that foster partnerships, and cross-sector collaboration, from assisting the state and local advocates in policy creation and reform to engaging in court administration, local economic development and technical support to civil society. Founded in 1993 after Hurricane Andrew hit South Florida, PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE warehoused goods and fed more people than any other organization in the region. Since that time the group has worked on projects ranging from creating a home for the mentally retarded in Southbury, CT, earthquake relief in California, Mississippi River flood water cleanup in 1996, building schools for the Masai tribe in Kenya and warehousing supplies in Biloxi and New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina relief victims. Currently, we are focused on helping the women and children in the Andean region of Ecuador, where we have built 5 schools and a medical/dental facility. Students sent to these schools are sponsored by generous donors like yourselves, who help provide classroom materials, books, uniforms, meals and transportation. PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE is a 50(c)(3) registered for private non-sectarian foundation that today takes on projects on a need to serve basis. PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE is a virtual organization that comes together when there is a project in need, consequently we have no administrative cost or overhead. All donated money goes directly to the projects.

The International Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship Program supports the post-doctoral research of promising young scientists who work and train in collaboration with mentors at major cancer centers in the United States and Italy. Mobile No-Cost Breast Cancer Screening Program AICF’s Mobile Mammography Program serves economically disadvantaged and medically underserved women in New York City who are age 40 and over and have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months. Many of these women have geographic, cultural, or linguistic barriers to receiving screening services and do not make annual screenings for breast cancer a priority. AICF’s mobile clinics travel to priority neighborhoods in the five boroughs to deliver mammograms, clinical breast exams, and instruction in breast self exam. The Program’s mobile nature makes it easy to access important—and potentially lifesaving—breast cancer screening services. All services are provided at no cost, regardless of health insurance status. The Registered Nurses at Lenox Hill Hospital were first organized into a union in 1980 by Local 1199, the Health Care Workers Union. By 1984 a number of the staff nurses were disillusioned with the representation provided by Local 1199. They considered affiliating with other unions, but ultimately decided that the best union for Lenox Hill staff nurses would be one devoted exclusively to representing them. Thus, the New York Professional Nurses Union (NYPNU) was born. The staff nurses then launched a drive to decertify Local 1199, and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ordered an election in December 1984. The options on the ballot included Local 1199, no union, and NYPNU. NYPNU won a majority of the votes cast and the NLRB certified the Union as the exclusive bargaining agent for staff nurses in early 1985. President Maureen McCarthy, RN, Esq., and, Vice-President Kathy Flynn, RN, Esq., lead the union while working as full-time nurses at Lenox Hill. Along with the rest of the Officers, Delegates and membership, they successfully negotiated contracts in 1985, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006 and most recently October 2009. In 2000 Lenox Hill Hospital acquired Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital (MEETH), and the staff nurses at MEETH became members of NYPNU. For the first time, the 2003 contract explicitly included per diems RNs. Since then, Case Managers, Nurse Practitioners and Lactation Specialists have also joined NYPNU. The inclusion of all of these additional members has added to our strength. At times, NYPNU has assisted staff nurses at other hospitals in creating independent unions, including nurses at Physician's Hospital in Queens, at St. Barnabas Hospital in New Jersey and at the Kansas University Hospital in Kansas. NYPNU’s successful history provides the foundation for our future achievements. While some of the faces may change over the years, our members’ strength, dedication and solidarity remain the same.
