St. Louis Cathedral is the oldest active cathedral in the United States. It is the religious icon for the city of New Orleans and world renowned tourist attraction.
St. Augustine Catholic Church of New Orleans is in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The parish was founded in 1841 under the episcopacy of Bishop Antoine Blanc, who later served as New Orleans' first Archbishop. Established by free people of color, who also bought pews for slaves, this is the oldest African-American Catholic parish in the nation. It was one of the first 26 sites designated on the state's Louisiana African American Heritage Trail. The property on which St. Augustine stands was once part of the Claude Tremé plantation. It is now one of two Catholic parishes in the Faubourg Tremé. The church is located on Saint Claude Street at Governor Nicholls Street, a few blocks from North Rampart Street and the French Quarter. It was designed by the French architect J.N.B. de Pouilly, who worked on the expansion and renovation of the more famous St. Louis Cathedral on Jackson Square.

In 1872 the parish was renamed Holy Name of Mary, and in 1873 its first wood-framed church, located several blocks from the current site. Irreparable damage from the 1915 hurricane, severe termite infestation, and major problems with the foundation plagued the lofty spire structure and, as result, it was dismantled in 1927. The present Gothic revival structure was built on the current site, and dedicated on November 25, 1929. The Marist Fathers assumed the administration of the parish in early June of 1865. The seventh Archbishop, James Blenk, S.M., was pastor from 1897 to 1899. THe parish continued under their administration until June 1999, at which time it reverted back to the diocese. In August 2009 St. Julian Eymard Parish was merged with Holy Name of Mary. the parish today has a consolidated diverse membership of approximately 1000 families.

Royal Carriages was started in 1941 by my parents, Clem and Violet Lauga, with one horse and carriage. Over the years, our company has grown steadily into a full-service carriage company employing 50 people and stabling a like number of young draft mules. Through all these years of ownership, the company has remained in our family -- one that has a legacy of over 70 years experience in the New Orleans sightseeing industry. The fact that Royal Carriages is a family-run business is one reason why we are the oldest continually-operating sightseeing carriage company in America. All our mules receive at least 3 months of vacation per year on our lovely 30-acre farm in the Mississippi countryside. We usually stable about 34 mules here in the city and the balance are kept on pasture. If we treat our animals this good, you can imagine how well we'll treat you! Royal Carriages prides itself on providing our guests with that personal touch. We invite you to visit us on your next visit to New Orleans, and hope your stay in New Orleans is a pleasant one!
