It is located at 9240 Dwight Street in the Berry Subdivision Historic District, on the city's east side, backing up to the Detroit River.HistoryIt was built in 1928 for $300,000 but the owner lost the home during the Great Depression. Alex Manoogian, founder of the Masco Company, purchased the home in 1939. In 1966, the Manoogians donated the mansion to the City of Detroit. After defeating Kenneth Cockrel, Jr. in a special election in 2009 following Kilpatrick's resignation, new mayor Dave Bing did not immediately move into the mansion because of city budget issues. Cockrel likewise had not moved into the mansion. Bing moved into the mansion in 2010. He considered altering the mansion's name to remove association with the rumored Kilpatrick partying incident.Location and compositionThe 4000sqft Manoogian Mansion is located along the Detroit River, several miles east of Downtown Detroit. The Associated Press stated that it is in "a small, older subdivision". As of 2010 the maintenance cost $116,000 per year.

The park itself consists of 13 acres of preserved land for the conservatory and its botanical garden.Opened in 1904, the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory is the oldest continually-running conservatory in the United States. It is named for Anna Scripps Whitcomb, who left her collection of 600 orchids to Detroit in 1955.History and architectureThe Belle Isle Conservatory, along with the neighboring Belle Isle Aquarium, was (according to the September 1, 1901 edition of the Detroit Free Press) designed by the noted firm of George D. Mason and Albert Kahn, and built between 1902 and 1904. Kahn modeled the building after architectural exhibitions and garden pavilions of the mid- to late-nineteenth century, most notably The Crystal Palace and the Palm House at Kew Gardens.Located in the center of the 982-acre Belle Isle Park, the conservatory covers 13 acres, with a lily pond on its north side and perennial gardens on the west; the gardens home the Levi L. Barbour Memorial Fountain, designed by sculptor Marshall Fredericks. The Conservatory building is divided into five distinct sections: the Palm house (inside the domed center), the Tropical house (South Wing), the Cactus house and Fernery (North Wing), and the Show house (East Wing). The main feature of the building is the 85ft high central dome, which houses palm trees and other tropical plants.

A second plant, Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly owned by General Motors, where Cadillacs are manufactured, is partly in Detroit and partly in the neighboring city of Hamtramck.Chrysler announced in August 2008 a 1.8-billion-dollar investment in the plant that would expand it by 285000sqft and upgrade the facility for the production of a new product in 2010. Cerberus and the United Auto Workers agreed in 2007 to a plan whereby entry workers are paid $16/hour compared to $28 for long-term UAW employees. The Cerberus-owned company went into bankruptcy in 2009 with the company getting a multibillion-dollar bailout by the United States government before ultimately being acquired by Fiat in 2011.
