Years of ongoing dialogue among students, staff, and faculty about the need for a women’s center at LSU came to fruition in the fall of 1995. Original funding was secured from the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students, and the Women's Center rented Hodges 129 and 130 from Residential Life. The Center officially opened on October 5, 1995 under the direction of Barbara Jackson, joining 400 such centers at colleges and universities across the nation. The Center was forced to relocate to Hatcher Hall in 1999 and in 2001 the students lobbied for a more accessible and adequate location for the growing Center by garnering over 3,000 signatures in the form of a student petition; Student Government also passed a resolution in favor of the Women’s Center’s move to a new location. During the summer of 2001, the LSU Women's Center moved to the Helen M. Carter House on Raphael Semmes Road. In January 2011, the Women’s Center moved to its current temporary space in 307 Hatcher Hall. The Women’s Center Expansion project is expected to be completed in December 2012.

Ultimately, the goal of our organization is to encourage our entire student body to serve our neighboring residents, regardless of their socioeconomic status, as well as the local organizations that work tirelessly to improve the city that we call home. Our volunteer efforts focus on real needs by working on projects identified by Baton Rouge residents and organizations within the following areas: Old South Baton Rouge, Mid-City, and North Baton Rouge. Geaux Big Baton Rouge is modeled after Texas A&M’s “Big Event”, which was established in 1982. Over the years, their program has become a staple event within their community. In 2016, they are predicted to serve 2,000 job sites via the service of 20,000 Aggies. Inspired by “The Big Event”, Elaine Giles, an LSU alum, founded Geaux BIG Baton Rouge in 2012 as a student. Geaux BIG Baton Rouge held its debut event on April 20, 2013, serving 29 job sites via the service of 850 LSU students. In 2014, the number of volunteers grew to 1,200 LSU students, serving 71 job sites throughout the Baton Rouge community. Based on the estimated value of volunteer time, Geaux BIG Baton Rouge 2014 provided an estimated value of $106, 224 to the city of Baton Rouge. The Iota Pi Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity received its charter on April 21, 2012, and was accepted into LSU's Inferfraternity Council (IFC) on September 26 of the same year. We are the third newest branch among 134 international chapters in Theta Chi Fraternity. We are the newest fraternity on LSU's campus. Facing the challenges of creating a new fraternity within the LSU Greek system has shown our Chapter that if there is no struggle, there is no progress. Our chapter has improved a great deal since its earlier days, and we can credit that to our brotherhood. Although we've faced incredible obstacles, we're at a point in our development where we're poised for excellence. Our brotherhood, the friendship we value at its core, is what allows us to not only adapt to the problems that are expected to occur, but also moments of hardship that effect the whole community. It's the traditions and ideals we share as men that keep us resolute in nurturing our high and sacred purpose. We are bound by The Creed of Theta Chi. Among the entire international educational system we promote knowledge for all, advance the idea of a global culture, and build the character of men in the time of their lives when it is determined the role they will serve the world. The Iota Pi Chapter has excellent leadership and a vision for greatness. During our growth, our Chapter has shown initiative and extensive philanthropic endeavors. As our foundation continues to be built by overcoming problems, and new brothers and future leaders join our brotherhood, we will stay relentlessly ambitious and continue to adapt.

Overview Design Studio The design studio is the heart of LSU’s landscape architecture curriculum. In the studio, students discuss their work directly with the instructor and classmates, with strategies, words and images flowing freely among all. The instructor critiques design work, challenging the student to seek the most creative and appropriate solution to any given problem. Throughout the five-year sequence of landscape architecture studios, a variety of design problems are assigned. These range in scale and complexity from small garden spaces to large urban and regional projects. The experience and knowledge gained from one project is applied to the next as new design considerations are systematically introduced. The studio experience not only exposes students to many of the real life problems they may encounter as professionals, but teaches a range of methods to problem-solving, referred to as the design process. Scholarships In addition to the LSU scholarships awarded to students of any major, there are several landscape architecture design scholarships: Helen Reich Memorial Scholarship, Edward and Yvonne Harvey Scholarship, Kay Ward Seale Memorial Award, Torre Design Award, Atwell Champion Scholarship, Andrew J. Hart Scholarship, William E. Hornsey Memorial Woods & Water Scholarship, Alice Hovey Littlefield Memorial Scholarship, and the ASLA Scholarship. All landscape students are encouraged to apply every spring. Travel The LSU School of Landscape Architecture is reknown for its rich and extensive off-campus educational opportunities. The School sponsors field trips throughout the year to the northeast, west coast, Florida, Texas, and Georgia. Beyond the United States, the School organizes opportunities for students to travel, study and work in Mexico, Asia, and Europe. The value of students' experiences from these trips is immense, and further expanded when they return to the studio and classroom. Resources Excellent facilities such as the Computer Aided Design and Graphic Information systems Lab (CADGIS), the Visual Resource Library, and the Design Workshop, enhance the overall learning experience. Student Activities Landscape architecture students take most of their professional courses in the College of Art and Design complex of facilities, mixing with students and faculty of the related disciplines. Permanent work stations are assigned to all students. The student chapter of ASLA is active in the School and in community service. This student organization is open to all landscape architecture majors and provides opportunities to meet and interact with other students and practicing landscape architects in professional and social settings. Instruction and experience in the topics listed comprise the professional component of the curriculum Design Problem solving Drawing as a tool in the design process Two- and three-dimensional design Composition Design and planning theory and methods Technical Knowledge Materials Grading and drainage Construction/structures Codes and standards Professional practice Specifications Representation Written and verbal presentation Design drawing (process graphics) Presentation graphics CADD Model making 3D computer modeling Geographic Information Systems (GIS) MLA Program We appreciate your interest in the graduate program at LSU’s Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture. Our program is well established and our graduates routinely find jobs in design and planning firms, governmental agencies, and community-based organizations throughout America and abroad. We offer a curriculum that is design-oriented, with opportunities for involvement in issues that range from those of relevance to the Gulf South region to those of international importance. Our faculty have diverse professional and research interests, and these interests are integrated into the learning experience. The program of study is rigorous, particularly in the first year. The curriculum becomes more flexible as you advance, with elective classes taken in second and third year. We encourage students to discuss past academic and professional experiences with the Graduate Coordinator to facilitate making the most of the curriculum and students’ interests. Students have three options for their final semester of work: the studio option; independent work with a faculty supervisor; and a written thesis. Students considering the second or third option should begin discussions with Graduate Coordinator as soon as possible in order to begin work in time to meet academic deadlines and requirements of LSU’s Graduate School. We encourage all potential students to visit our campus, see our facilities, see student work, and meet students and faculty. We routinely schedule an open-house for prospective students in November. Let us know of your interest and we will be sure to add your name to the invitation list. Be sure to contact us if you are planning a visit to ensure your time here is productive. Thank you for your interest in our program. Feel free to contact us if you have additional questions about the program, application process, and timelines. The Louisiana State University Department of Geography and Anthropology is a national leader in education and research. From climate change to forensics, students enrolled in the G&A program study a wide range of topics, obtain a unique set of technical skills and become globally competitive job seekers upon graduation. Students typically focus their education in one of four areas: physical geography, mapping sciences, human geography and anthropology. Physical geographers study patterns of climates, land forms, vegetation, soils, and water. Mapping scientists use many tools and techniques in their work, and geographic technologies are increasingly among the most important emerging fields for understanding our complex world. They include Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and online mapping such as Google Earth. Human geography is concerned with the spatial aspects of human existence. And anthropologists study humankind, past and present, pulling in expertise in fields ranging from biology to sociology. Our faculty represent the elite of their filed – leaders in climate research, coastal morphology, archaeology and more.
