Pacific Place (Dallas) Reviews

1910 Pacific Ave
Dallas, TX 75201

Pacific Place is a Class-A skyscraper located at 1910 Pacific Avenue in the City Center District of Dallas, Texas. The structure contains 20 floors of office space and stands adjacent to the historic Majestic Theatre. It is connected to the Dallas Pedestrian Network and sits across Pacific Avenue from Aston Park and the proposed Pacific Plaza Park. It lies within the Harwood Historic District, but it not a contributing structure.HistoryPacific Place, constructed of steel, masonry and purple reflective glass, opened in 1982 as a multi-tenant office tower. It was constructed on the site of the historic 1921 Melba Theatre, one of several theaters along Elm Street's Theater Row, and an adjacent parking structure. Its narrow building site resulted in recessed courtyard entrances on both Elm Street and Pacific Avenue, while the angled facade provided multiple corner offices and allowed light to reach the neighboring Corrigan Tower. The second level of the building was connected via skywalk to the Dallas Pedestrian Network, providing access to parking and retail facilities. The building suffered high vacancy rates due to the economic recession of the 2000s. By 2008 the doors were closed, although the building's public spaces were still well-maintained. Several proposals were developed, including a study to converted the building into 198 residential units. The building sold in April 2010 to Boxer Property for $5.3 million. Following renovation, it reopened for leasing in April 2012.

Founded in July 1994... The Church is open on Thursday and Sunday nights, though we occasionally host special events on other nights. Inspired by Carlos Menendez and Frankie Morales and their long running theme night, which began in Miamis "Velvet" nightclub, The Church provides Dallas most unique nightclub experience. The Church is located at 2424 Swiss Avenue, in the Swiss Avenue historic district. The original building was constructed in 1899 as a trolley car repair station, and is listed in the north Texas Haunted Building Registry. Paranormal researchers have confirmed that the building is, in fact, haunted, and we occasionally experience paranormal activity. The building underwent an extensive renovation in 1974 as the Grand Crystal Palace Dinner Theater. The Video Bar is actually a separate building, constructed in 1974, as an addition to the Grand Crystal Palace. The Church features 5 separate lounges, 3 DJs, and a rooftop patio with an incredible view of the city. The musical landscape includes everything from Ambient Sounds, Neo Gothic, current and classic Industrial, EBM, Electro, Dark House, and the occasional musical "surprise."

Dallas, TX 75201

(214) 651-1900

The Titche-Goettinger Building is one of Dallas' original broad-front department stores located along St. Paul Street between Main and Elm Street in downtown Dallas, Texas (USA). The structure currently houses apartments, retail space, and the Universities Center at Dallas. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a contributing property in the Harwood Historic District and Main Street District. It is also located across the street from Main Street Garden Park.HistoryIn 1902, Edward Titche formed a partnership with Max Goettinger and the two established Titche-Goettinger, a department store, on the southeast corner of Elm and Murphy Streets in downtown Dallas. By 1904, operations had outgrown the Elm/Murphy location and the store moved to the year-old Wilson Building. By 1928, the store had again outgrown itself and construction began on a new building two blocks east in an area known as "Uptown".Located along St. Paul between Elm and Main, the new flagship building designed by noted architect George Dahl opened in November 1929 as one of the largest department stores in the Southwest. It consisted of seven floors plus basement and sub-basement. The exterior was clad in Indiana Limestone with Italian Florentine detail in Renaissance Revival style, while the inside featured Art Deco design elements.

Behind the stately limestone porticos, glimmering shop windows and twinkling marquees that line Main Street, you’ll find the neighborhood’s original foundation matches its opulent façade. Downtown Dallas isn’t just a trendy modern hub—these streets are deeply rooted in sophisticated style and theatrical entertainment. Back in the day, theatre and fashion not only went hand in hand here, but gave the neighborhood a glow that rivaled the glamour of Broadway. Streamlined railways and streetcars ushered in legendary performers, silver screen stars and the audiences who came to see them. Magnificent theatres sat alongside opulent opera houses. Tailoring all of it to the stylish tastes of the times was the landmark Titche-Goettinger department store. By setting up shop in the middle of the social hub of the city, Edward Titche and Max Goettinger quickly made a name for themselves while keeping pace with the budding Vaudeville acts that stole the headlines. Built on the former site of the Dallas Opera House, their new flagship store was perfectly situated for eager fashionistas flocking to downtown from surrounding suburbs to shop the rousing scene. With a three-ton neon sign on Elm Street, an imaginative refrigerated fur coat vault and an unheard-of price tag of $2.5 million, Titche-Goettinger’s seven-story spectacle spared no expense on state-of-the-art technology. The store was a showpiece of modern design and Art Deco decor, with fixtures of brass and white milk glass, terrazzo floors and diagonal corner windows that caught the eyes of all who strolled by. Inside, shoppers were met with an impressive six floors of merchandise tailored to fit almost any need, from wigs and furs on the second floor to an after-shopping snack in the Tea Room. So, whether guests were looking for a head-to-toe look for the opera that night or wanted an updated ‘do from the in-store beauty salon, Titche-Goettinger had it all… Right down to the finishing touches. Above each display window on the exterior are symbols representing various retail trades. At its St. Paul entrance, inlaid medallions of cotton and wheat signify the two core crops of Texas. At its Elm Street entrance, timber and manufacturing; and, at the Main Street entrance, cattle and oil. Color-changing nightlight sconces added a “big city” feel to the town’s growing skyline—that nowadays fits right in with downtown’s glowing landscape. A few blocks down, flickering marquee lights and the sounds of Wurlitzers used to fill the streets as The Melba, Tower, Palace, Rialto Capitol, Fox and Strand overflowed with audiences in their latest Nardis fashions each night. Although grandest of all on Theatre Row was the Majestic—the only one standing today. Its baroque Corinthian columns, egg-and-dart molding, crystal chandeliers, marble fountain, black and white marble floors and twin marble staircases complete what is a lasting and illustrious monument to Vaudeville. So, you see, between the marvelous shopping meccas and distinguished downtown stages, the groundwork was paved long ago for Dallas to shine as a fashion capital and grand statement of style, one still standing tall in a spotlight all its own.
