The Yellow Bike Project is located at 1216 Webberville Road in Austin, Texas, and is an educational facility open to anyone who wants to learn about fixing and riding bikes. We offer shop hours for personal users to repair their own bikes, and for volunteers interested in learning about mechanics while working to get more used bikes back out on the road. Our Webberville Shop features twelve fully equipped workstands, a large selection of parts, all of the necessary tools for virtually any repair large or small, and knowledgeable volunteer Coordinators to help you along regardless of your level of experience. At YBP, we don’t fix your bike for you—instead, we show you how to fix it yourself. Need a bike? We have an ever-changing stock of refurbished used bikes at affordable prices. We also offer the popular Earn-a-Bike program. Through Earn-a-Bike, you'll learn the fundamentals of bicycle mechanics while volunteering time to YBP. Once you've put in the hours and mastered the wrenching basics, you'll get to pick out a bike to fix up and keep, free of charge. Use of the shop is free to the public, but to help keep this community resource alive, we ask that you volunteer time equal to that spent on personal projects. If you don’t have time to volunteer, monetary donations are also appreciated. We have been an volunteer-powered organization since we started in 1997, and are sustained by volunteered time and donated bikes, parts, and funding.
Since fall of 1993, Austin FilmWorks has offered college level filmmaking courses with the aim of providing solid information and experience that students may use to create their own film and video projects. Our students are diverse in background, practical experience, and age. They come largely from the city's universities, corporations, and arts communities. Austin FilmWorks has earned a reputation for challenging students to innovate in the independent tradition. That independence is based on a bedrock knowledge of film stocks, lenses, cameras and formats. We believe that technical and aesthetic grounding leads to individual control of the creative process. We believe the ongoing digital imaging and editing revolution is evolving new creative opportunities for the well informed. One need only information, advice and experience to take advantage of the film and video possibilities. We believe that filmmaking is both the hardest and most fulfilling of work, and that the process should always be fun.
The Free Minds Project makes higher education accessible for Central Texas adults and supports their success in pursuing college degrees. A unique partnership between UT Austin and Austin Community College (ACC), along with community programs such as Foundation Communities and Camp Fire USA, Free Minds offers a free college course in the humanities to adults living on low to moderate incomes who have faced barriers to higher education. At the core of the program is a two-semester course in literature, history, writing, and philosophy, team-taught by faculty from UT Austin and ACC. The course provides a dynamic environment for adults to build self-confidence, critical thinking and communications skills. Course materials, academic advising, case management, college preparation workshops, and a youth development program are provided. Successful students earn six credit hours from ACC. Free Minds gives adults a chance to re-imagine their possibilities and build better lives.

What we are: In January, a group of young activists launched a networking event for the progressive community in Austin. Each month, Third Coast Sundays bring people together from a variety of backgrounds who are looking to get involved with radical efforts taking place in and around Austin, TX. The Third Coast Sunday theme of “Celebrating Progressive Politics and Radical Roots” reminds us of the need to critique the existing order and create a new world. We ask: What needs to be tore down, and what needs to be built up? This monthly gathering is designed as a place to share ideas, build connections, and find opportunities for action -- both for those new to political organizing and those who’ve been in the fight for decades. If you are disappointed by most of what is - or isn't! - covered in the headlines, then this is a space for you. Who is welcome: All volunteers, activists, organizers and engagers who feel politically isolated! While we do not engage in presidential politics, or intend to bind ourselves with the political movements that encompass such elections, our movement is movement. We welcome all passionate minds and hearts who lean left, politically.
Planting Seeds Tutoring educates children as early as kindergarten all the way through college. It looks to improve student's performance inside and outside the classroom. Through one on one private tutoring we get to know the student as a person, as well as the parent. From there we evaluate student's weak points and devise a plan to improve the student's success. We keep up with daily progression reports, and set goals that the student would like to accomplish throughout the year. From there we strive to get the best out of our students! As a personal tutor I make great efforts to instill important values in the student so that he can grow inside and outside the classroom. It is through passionate learning that a person continues to grow!
