Acting Studio Chicago

(312) 527-4566

Founded in 1981, Acting Studio Chicago has been serving the Chicago theatrical community for more than three decades. While in Los Angeles in the late seventies, Jane Brody, C.S.A., worked closely with Michael Shurtleff, the well-known teacher, casting director, and author of the actor's "bible," Audition. When she moved to Chicago, Jane was inspired to continue teaching his method and founded the studio. Since 1995, Studio Director Rachael Patterson has continued to offer training based on the twelve guideposts of Michael Shurtleff. Mastery of these principles augments instinct and talent with a practical set of skills. This clear cut technique demystifies the actor's process and offers a path to creative discovery through action. The Shurtleff Method compliments Stanislavski, Meisner, Uta Hagen, Stella Adler and other acting approaches. But by using the Guideposts, our teachers share a common philosophy and a common language. A student’s work in one class is strengthened and deepened in subsequent classes due to this common approach. Our teachers, who have studied at Julliard, American Conservatory Theatre, DePaul, Northwestern, University of Illinois and other training programs share a vocabulary and a specific way of approaching the text. Acting Studio Chicago has been the most recommended professional training center in Chicago since 1981.

Mission Food He.ro is a social enterprise (L3C) on a mission to combat “Food Waste,” the unnecessary act of preparing and/or discarding excess food; a widespread problem affecting all levels of foodservice operations and continuing into our communities. Through cutting edge game-mechanic technology, combined with traditional hands-on learning methods, Food He.ro has developed a revolutionary approach in the fight against Food Waste. Our vision is to empower individuals and businesses with the tools needed to become everyday Food Heroes themselves. Social Impact By raising awareness of rampant food waste occurring every day, and providing education and training of food-use efficiency techniques through revolutionary technology and visualization practices, Food He.ro can greatly reduce Food Waste across a multitude of industries, while increasing the efficiency and profitability of businesses, and creating an overall culture of mindfulness and sustainability within our food systems. Start the Journey Food hero is a social impact, lean startup platform for the food industry “We leverage technology and game-mechanics to control food costs, reduce waste and increase profits” A substantial percentage of Food Waste stems from inadequate planning, purchasing, misdirected training, and inefficient food preparation; all bad habits that can be corrected. We start our Food Heroes on their journey with simple yet extremely effective strategic thinking: Learn, Test, Apply, and Repeat. Our Food Heroes then continue on their journey by understanding our curriculum “game mechanics,” which makes learning engaging and fun. At Food He.ro, we guide our Heroes through an evolution process, turning them into strategic, socially-conscious, sustainability-focused, and technologically-minded, Food Waste Fighters! Technology Food He.ro is laser focused on utilizing cutting edge technology as a training tool. We have developed Alternate Reality Game (ARG) training and teaching modules that are easy to understand, relatable to all kinds of operations, and actually FUN. Food He.ro has designed their training platforms around a powerful and potent methodology called “Design for Leverage” which is a unique way to learn how to scale (replicate and expand) your food business. Our approach is unique because it helps businesses incorporate “design thinking” into their growth strategy, and make the most methodical use of resources. A food business can be confident about “testing” next steps because they will know how to use and interpret data to create measurable return on investments. Partnerships We partnered up with THE NATIONAL RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION, and KAUFFMAN FAST-TRAC to deliver DESIGN FOR LEVERAGE, ENTREPRENEURSHIP and MANAGEMENT starting with food-use efficiency as the foundation for profitability and success for sustainable food businesses.
