More success and less stress is our mission. At Special Solutions, we are passionate about listening and providing honest communication, the first steps in understanding how to educate your child. Parent and student expectations are often a source of conflict and stress. Safe, open communication allows us to set realistic expectations and create the best educational plan for your student. Our founder, Shelley B. Smith, will be that sought after “special teacher” who cares deeply, understands limitations, guides and coaches the student, and provides support for your family. We believe that you deserve the support of a dedicated team. As part of our care team, Shelley works with the school, the family and her staff to develop a collaborative educational plan. To help your child thrive in school and in the real world, we develop a continuum of services to meet individual needs in the academic, organizational, and social areas. Following a thorough assessment, we decide on a plan of instructional strategies and behavioral management systems. If your child has learning challenges, the best route to classroom improvement is one-on-one tutoring and coaching. As critical members of the care team, our tutors are highly attuned to the individual needs of each student. Advocacy is an essential success strategy. Students with learning challenges should understand their unique learning styles and then be taught how to ask for what they need. This is an acquired skill that often takes students out of their comfort zone and does not come easily or quickly. Shelley provides coaching in this area and gives students the tools to independently seek out and receive the help they need to succeed. Special Solutions believes that the setting makes a big difference in how a child learns. We guarantee a comfortable, calm, and inviting atmosphere that encourages productivity and confidence. Although we can send a tutor to your home, frequently the student prefers our home-like setting where there are none of the usual distractions. We provide an effective learning environment, taking into account your child’s learning style and needs. Everyone at Special Solutions has the determination and commitment to make things change for you and your child. We will help you get the most from the educational system and provide appropriate supplemental education as needed. Our support systems, strategies, and advocacy assist you in charting a path to success and restore your optimism.

When a child struggles academically or socially, most parents want to implement a solution as quickly as possible. The consequence of a “quick fix” is that the underlying problem is often misinterpreted or overlooked. Thus begins a frustrating cycle that can affect the child’s relationships, love of learning and success in the classroom. With more than 70 years combined special education and education testing experience in St. Louis, Pam Kennedy and Louise Thomas at Testing 1, 2, 3 offer psycho educational evaluations to help identify the source of learning and social issues. All testing is individualized, based upon the presenting issues, and also includes screenings for learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism, anxiety, depression and behavior issues. Our professional, one-on-one approach can quickly address classroom struggles and identify personalized solutions and accommodations to keep the student on track for success. We are available for after school and weekend testing to accommodate your busy schedule.
Who are we? We are group that is determined to spread the word about all things aviation and engineering to the engineers of tomorrow.

Exeriential learning is the process of making meaning in the world and creating knowledge from direct experience. Aristotle once said, "For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them." The Chelsea Center promotes learning through doing and reflecting on the process, which is often contrasted with rote learning. Learners make discoveries and experiment with knowledge firsthand rather than hearing or reading about others' experiences. The Chelsea Center believes learning is not a spectator sport.
